AMCHAM Examines the Evolution of Human Resources in the Post-COVID-19 Era

September 21, 2022 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM; Chairman and CEO James Kim) hosted the AMCHAM Human Resources Workshop 2022 at the Millennium Hilton Seoul this morning. Held for the first time in-person since 2019, this event explored the evolving aspects of the theme, “HR in the New Era.” Representatives from both public and private sectors joined the seminar to share their insights on elements companies should consider in creating a more efficient, safe and productive work environment in the post-pandemic era.
In his opening remarks, AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim said, “The HR Workshop is one of AMCHAM’s longest-running programs. Every year, it has facilitated an active and informative discussion about important HR issues and trends.” He continues, “This year, we are shifting eyes toward the future. As we transition into a new and digitalized “post-pandemic era” with a workforce that is more diverse than ever before, we now have to think of ways to accommodate to our employees’ and colleagues’ new lifestyles and priorities.”
H.E. Kwon Chang-joon, Director of Labor-Management Cooperation Policy at the Ministry of Employment and Labor, said, “Foreign-invested companies are major partners to the Korean economy, with more than 6,000 companies providing 770,000 jobs in Korea. The president has emphasized the creation of sustainable jobs led by the private sector, and the government will create an advanced labor market so that Korea can become a place of greater opportunity.” He added, “The Ministry of Employment and Labor, along with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, KOTRA, and the Labor-Management Development Foundation, will continue to support foreign-invested companies to understand and adapt to Korea’s changing employment and labor policies and environment.”
The seminar featured presentations by executives from Google, Incoaching, Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI) and Shin & Kim LLC on the following topics: “Diversity, Equity & Inclusion,” “Strategic Coaching Solutions to Enhance Leadership,” “Enhancing Communication & Holistic Employee Communications Strategy” and “Recent Issues of Workplace Harassment – focused on court cases.”
The panel discussion examined other projected trends in human resources, including expectations of MZ Generation job seekers, key factors of ensuring retention of strong talent, management of the hybrid workspace, and more. The panel consisted of executives from 3M, PERSOLKELLY, GoGlobal GEO Korea Ltd., Incoaching, Human Dynamic, Shin & Kim LLC and Singapore Human Resources Institute (SHRI).
