AMCHAM Korea Concludes Key Meetings with Obama Administration and Leaders on Capitol Hill

(한글은 아래 참조) Mar 23, 2016 (Seoul) - Leaders from the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) concluded a recent visit to Washington D.C. from March 14 ? 17 where they met with key representatives of the Obama Administration and the U.S. Congress to discuss issues critical to the economic interests between Korea and the U.S. The visit was particularly timely and important given the current dialogue surrounding trade and investment so prominent in the current U.S. presidential campaign, the pending acceptance of the Trans Pacific Partnership (“TPP”) and Korea’s potential entrance as a member nation to TPP. The AMCHAM leaders focused on the strengths of Korea and the value to both nations in pursuing TPP membership for Korea. AMCHAM delegates held 35 meetings over the 4 days with administration and congressional leaders in an effort to combat rising anti-trade sentiment in the U.S. and promote a greater understanding of Korea and Korea’s economic policies. AMCHAM Korea delegates also informed the U.S. officials and congressional leaders of the benefits and challenges under the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA). Meetings were held with representatives of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Speaker Paul Ryan. The delegates also met with Senator Corry Gardner and Congressmen Joaquin Castro, Mike Kelly and David Richert and key personnel on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senate Finance Committee, House Ways and Means Committee, and House Foreign Affairs Committee. AMCHAM found that while the level of interest in Korea is strong, information is not always current and there are significant misunderstandings in the U.S. Congress on the current state of the bilateral relationship and in particular the current status of the KORUS FTA. . From the Obama Administration, AMCHAM met with Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Russel, Deputy United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Robert Holleyman, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Korea and Japan Bruce Hirsch and Deputy Secretary of U.S. Department of Commerce Bruce Andrews. Delegates also had a fruitful meeting with some of the key leaders from the Departments of Commerce, Justice, Treasury, National Security Council, Fair Trade Commission and USTR. In these meetings, AMCHAM team shared Park Administration’s goals for labor reform, regulatory reform and trade promotion. AMCHAM Korea Visits Washington D.C. to Advocate Korea as a Robust Partner to the U.S.

Through these meetings, the delegation will advocate Korea as an important economic partner to the United States. (한글은 아래참조)Dec 15, 2015 (Seoul) - The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) announced today that Mr. John Schuldt has been appointed the new President of AMCHAM Korea, succeeding Ms. Amy Jackson. John Schuldt has lived in Seoul for more than 3 years and joins AMCHAM from Ford Motor Company where he most recently served as Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer. In his 30 year career, Mr. Schuldt has held a variety of executive positions in the United States and Asia representing corporate interests in developing mutually beneficial business relationships between customers and distribution channels.Having worked for a Fortune 10 company, Mr. Schuldt has extensive experience in many aspects of business: sales, marketing, finance, customer relationship management, manufacturing, and purchasing. In Korea, Japan and the South Pacific, he has successfully led teams who communicated strengths of American products to local customers resulting in increased market share and brand awareness while satisfying consumer needs with relevance and cultural customization.Mr. Schuldt also successfully served as the AMCHAM auto committee co-chairman for 3 years. In addition, he was chairman of the AMCHAM golf committee for the last 2 years. AMCHAM President, Amy Jackson, to leave Korea

AMCHAM announced today that its President, Amy Jackson, will leave Korea in January of next year to take a new job in the Asia-Pacific region, the details of which will be announced at a later time. ?Ms. Jackson has served as the AMCHAM President since August of 2009. With AMCHAM’s recent celebration of its 60th anniversary in Korea as a backdrop, Ms. Jackson has helped position AMCHAM well for its next 60 years. In particular, Ms. Jackson has worked hard to provide significant value for AMCHAM members, which helped create a “win-win” environment for both U.S. and Korean stakeholders. AMCHAM CEO Servers' Night

The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) hosted the “11th AMCHAM CEO Servers’ Night” on June 3rd, 2015 at The Park Ballroom on the 5th floor of the Conrad Seoul. The Partners for the Future Foundation (PFF), the charitable arm of AMCHAM Korea, has hosted this unique event to raise scholarship for Korean university students from unemployed families. On this special night, CEOs from leading multinational companies put on aprons instead of business suits becoming waiters for the event serving the meals and wine to their employees, families, business partners and friends. The staff at Conrad Seoul trained the CEOs on basic serving manners for the event. In his welcoming remarks, Jeffery Jones, Chairman of The Partners for the Future Foundation said “Tonight, your small donation can make a huge impact to the society. The Partners for the Future Foundation aims to have a bigger impact through a small amount of money.” Proceeds from this event will go to the PFF to award scholarships to university students in need of financial supports.On the event, around 130 guests enjoyed a four-course dinner served by their bosses. The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) announced that Eric John, President of Boeing Korea, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the AMCHAM Council on Innovation for the Future (ACIF).“I am honored to take on this position and look forward to working with fellow leaders of the U.S. and Korean business communities in helping Korea develop its innovative capacity,” said the new Chairman, commenting on his new appointment. “To help forge new strategic partnership between Korea and the United States in line with President Park Geun-hye’s ‘creative economy’ initiative, I will work hard as the Council Chairman to bring American innovative DNA and knowhow into the Korean economy and also to share our unique experiences and best practices with Korean SMEs,” he commented. AMCHAM launched the Council in October 2012 with the aim of promoting innovation and new business partnerships in Korea. To date, the Council has organized a number of “Innovation Camps” at local universities outside of Seoul, including in Chungcheongbuk-do, Busan, Daegu, and Gangwon-do, where leading AMCHAM member CEOs mentored Korean students on how to hone their skills to get a job at a multinational company. The next Innovation Camp will be held at the Chungnam National University in Daejeon in April. The Council is expanding its activities by hosting an Innovation Luncheon Series, the 1st of which was held in February. Eric John was named President of Boeing Korea and Vice President of Boeing International in May 2014.
