New Korean Air safety video features metaverse flight attendant, virtual K-pop stars

BY SEO JI-EUN, Korea JoongAng Daily - Travelers must bid adieu to Korean Air's famous dance-centric safety videos.

The airline has unveiled a new in-flight presentation on Thursday that features a virtual human flight attendant clad in the carrier's signature sky-blue uniform. It's a stark contrast to the company's previous safety video in which K-pop artists SuperM and BoA delivered safety rules to passengers in a musical format.

The new video will be shown during the pre-takeoff phase of all Korean Air flights starting on Thursday.

The virtual attendant, whose name is Rina, was created by Netmarble F&C's Metaverse Entertainment.

Rina explains regulations such as baggage handling, no-smoking policies and restricted items onboard. She's also shown completing safety training at Korean Air's guest service training center and being appointed an honorary flight attendant.

Members of the four-member virtual K-pop group MAVE: also appear in the video as passengers following the safety rules, marking the first time that virtual humans have appeared in an in-flight safety video.

“The safety video is the airline’s latest effort to connect with a diverse passenger base spanning different age groups and cultural backgrounds,” said Korean Air, which is Korea's largest carrier.

“This will become a great example of the synergy created between the aviation industry and digital technology,” Korean Air added.
