SK hynix to mass-produce GDDR7 DRAM chip in Q3 By Jie Ye-eun, The Korea Herald - SK hynix, the world's second-largest memory chip maker, on Tuesday unveiled its next-generation GDDR7 graphics memory chip that boasts the industry’s most outstanding performance in terms of operating speed and power efficiency.   The company said it will start mass production in the third quarter.   GDDR is a type of high-performance memory commonly used in graphics cards. It has recently gained popularity as graphics cards are increasingly used to power artificial intelligence workloads.   The memory chip maker introduced its new chip prototype at GTC 2024, a developer conference hosted by US chip giant Nvidia, in March, and Computex 2024, Asia’s largest IT exhibition in Taiwan, in June.   SK hynix said its product can be operated at 32 gigabits per second, a 60 percent improvement from the previous generation. It can reach up to 40 gigabits per second depending on the circumstances.   When adopted for high-end graphics cards, the new chip can process data of more than 1.5 terabytes, equivalent to 300 full-HD movies, in a second.   It also improved power efficiency by more than 50 percent compared with the previous generation by adopting the new packaging technology that addresses heat issues caused by ultra-fast data processing.   In a bid to reduce thermal resistance by 74 percent compared with the previous generation, while maintaining the size of the product, SK hynix said it increased the layer number of the heat-dissipating substrates from four to six.   It also applied the epoxy molding compound, an essential material for semiconductor packaging that protects chips from various external conditions, the company explained.   Lee Sang-kwon, head of the DRAM product planning division at SK hynix, said that GDDR7 is expected to be have a wider range of applications, such as high-specification 3D graphics, AI, high-performance computing and autonomous driving.   "We will continue to work towards enhancing our position as the most trusted AI memory solution provider by strengthening the premium memory lineup further," Lee said.   Along with SK hynix, its archrival Samsung Electronics and US-based Micron Technology are fiercely competing in the graphics DRAM market following the burgeoning high-bandwidth memory market.   Samsung Electronics developed the industry's first 32 gigabits per second GDDR7 DRAM a year ago. The world’s largest memory chip maker is preparing for mass production in the second half of this year.   Micron introduced its GDDR7 at Computex 2024. It explained that its chip boasts an operating speed of 32 gigabits per second. It also has a 60 percent increase in bandwidth and a 50 percent improvement in power efficiency compared to the previous generation.   According to market researcher TrendForce, GDDR7 is emerging as the next-generation flagship product in the graphics memory market.   “On the supply side, new GPUs entering the validation stage will lead to increased GDDR7 production. Currently, GDDR7 carries a 20-30 percent premium over GDDR6. 포스코, 中企 금융지원… 철강 생태계 동반성장 꾀한다  조선비즈 박진우 기자 - 포스코가 납품 대금 현금지불, 선급금·중도금 지급, 납품단가 조정, 네트워크론 등으로 중소 거래사의 자금운용에 도움을 주고 있다.  포스코에 따르면 회사는 ‘동반성장’ 개념이 생소했던 2000년대 초부터 중소기업 지원 금융지원을 시작해, 최근 철강 업계 차원의 ESG(환경·사회·지배구조) 경영을 위한 금융지원을 확대하고 있다.   포스코는 2005년 중소 거래사의 경영 안정화를 위해 IBK기업은행과 협력, ‘협력기업지원펀드’를 공동 조성하면서 동반성장 금융지원을 시작했다. 해당 펀드는 포스코가 예탁금을 예치하면 포스코가 받을 금리 일부를 펀드 이용 거래사가 감면 이자로 제공하는 방식으로 운영됐다. 중소 거래사가 일정 기준을 만족하면 펀드 자금 규모 내에서 대출을 신청할 수 있고, 금리는 약 1~2%포인트(p) 감면돼 금융비용이 감소하는 효과를 볼 수 있었다.   이후 해당 펀드는 2009년부터 담보 능력이 부족한 중소 거래사가 포스코와의 계약서를 담보로 최대 1% 저리로 5000억원까지 대금을 대출할 수 있는 포스코 네트워크론으로 발전하게 된다. 2008년 포스코는 우리은행·산업은행과 1200억원 규모의 펀드를 또 조성했다. 2013년에는 IBK기업은행과 함께 다시 2000억원 규모 펀드를 추가로 만들었다. 이런 포스코의 노력은 중소 거래사의 경영 안정화에 기여했다는 평가를 받는다.   현재 포스코는 시중 4개 은행과 총 5660억원 규모의 동반성장 금융지원 활동을 이어가고 있으며, 올해 6월말 기준 포스코 1차 거래사뿐 아니라, 2차 거래사까지 포함해 약 400개 회사가 자금을 이용 중에 있다.   동반성장펀드와 별개로 포스코는 코로나19가 극심했던 2020년 6월 신규 펀드를 만들었다. 한국철강협회가 추진한 상품으로, 포스코는 IBK기업은행, 현대제철(27,500원 ▲ 300 1.1%), 한국철강협회와 협약해 1500억원 규모의 ‘상생협력특별펀드’를 공동 조성했다.  상생협력특별펀드 운용 기간이 만료될 무렵인 2002년 포스코는 펀드 종료 없이 해당 펀드 명칭을 ‘철강ESG상생펀드’로 변경해 운영을 시작했다. 철강ESG상생펀드는 중소 거래사가 ESG경영을 위해 설비투자를 하거나 안전 시설을 확충하는 등 ESG개선을 위해 필요한 자금을 대출하는 게 목적이다. 신청 기업에 자금활용계획서를 받아 실제 ESG 경영에 자금이 쓸 수 있도록 했다.   포스코는 철강ESG상생펀드의 운용을 만기일에 종료하지 않고, 올해 6월 철의 날을 맞아 2000억원으로 확대 조성했다. 포스코는 2000억원 중 1285억원을 운영 중이다.  철강ESG상생펀드가 운영된 약 2년간의 기간(2020~2022년) 동안 82개 회사가 금융 지원을 받았다.  해당 펀드를 이용해 친환경 건물일체형 태양광 발전(BIPV)을 개발한 해동엔지니어링(경북 포항 소재) 이완형 사장은 " 포스코 철강ESG상생펀드를 통해 자금을 조달하고 포항산업과학연구원(RIST)와 협업해 BIPV 개발에 착수할 수 있었다”며 “온실가스 감축에 기여하는 BIPV 개발을 위해 힘을 보태 준 포스코와 RIST에 감사하다”고 했다.   노사관계 발전을 위한 근로자 휴게실 리모델링과 직원 성인지 교육에 자금을 활용한 피디텍(전남 광양 소재), 온실가스 감축을 위해 태양광 설치 및 노후 내연기관 트럭을 전기차로 교체한 에스엔테크(전남 광양) 등에 철강ESG상생펀드가 사용됐다.   포스코 관계자는 “금융지원을 통해 중소 거래사가 보다 원활하게 자금을 확보하고, 경영하는 데 도움이 되고 있다”라며 “이는 포스코에 납품하는 제품의 질이 올라가는 선순환 교과를 만든다”고 했다. 이어 “앞으로도 포스코는 중소 거래사와 동반성장해 강건한 공급망을 구축하고, 지속적으로 소통해 협력하겠다”고 했다.  포스코는 공급망 강건화를 위해 동반성장펀드와 철강ESG상생펀드 총 6945억원을 내실있게 운영해 나가고, 중소 거래사와 다양한 상생협력을 통해 동반성장의 선순환 체계를 구축하겠다는 계획이다.   출처: https://biz.chosun.com/industry/company/2024/07/30/IFPFLRAYBZEGPPDPC2RC2WFTVM/

현대차·기아, '美 소비자 신차 만족도' 최다 1위 차지   뉴시스 유희석 기자 - 현대차와 기아가 미국 자동차 시장조사업체 JD파워가 진행한 '신차 만족도' 조사에서 차종별 최다 1위를 차지했다. 이 조사는 소비자가 일정 기간 실제로 차를 타본 뒤 진행하는 평가여서 신뢰도가 높다는 평가다. 30일 JD파워 '2024 자동차 상품성 만족도 조사(APEAL)'에 따르면 현대차·기아 차량은 모두 7개 부문에서 1위에 올라 BMW(5개), 토요타(3개), 스텔란티스(2개) 등을 제쳤다. 올해로 29회차인 이 조사는 미국 신차 구매자들을 대상으로 승차감·주행감·디자인·안전성·사용경험 등 10개 분야, 37개 항목을 점검한다. 특히 차량 소유주가 직접 90일 이상 차량을 타본 뒤 점수를 주는 방식으로 측정한다. 올해 조사는 지난해 4월부터 올해 2월까지 등록된 차량을 기준으로 지난해 7월부터 올해 5월까지 9만9144명을 대상으로 진행했다. 현대차 중에서는 싼타페와 제네시스 GV60이 각각 중형 스포츠실용차(SUV)와 고급형 소형 SUV 부문에서 1위에 올랐다. 기아에서는 K5(중형 승용), 포르테(콤팩트카), EV9(준대형 SUV), EV6(콤팩트 SUV), 카니발(미니밴) 등 5개 차종이 1위를 차지했다. 특히 K5는 4년 연속 수상했고, EV6와 카니발은 각각 3년 연속 상을 받았다. GV60과 포르테는 2년 연속 수상이다. 현대차·기아의 1위 차종은 지난해 조사와 비교하면 2개 감소한 것이다. 소형차 리오와 중형 픽업 산타크루즈가 1위에서 밀렸다. 브랜드 평가에서는 프리미엄 부문에서 제네시스가 873점(1000점 만점)을 얻어 7위를 차지했다. 1위는 포르쉐로 891점이었고, 이어 재규어(886점)·랜드로버(882점)·BMW(881점)·메르세데스-벤츠(876점)·링컨(874점) 순으로 나타났다. 대중 브랜드 평가에서는 미니가 858점으로 1위에 올랐고, 램이 854점으로 2위에 이름을 올렸다. 기아는 853점, 현대차는 846점으로 각각 3위와 4위를 차지했다. 한편 제조사 구분 없이 이번 조사 기간 출시된 모든 신차에 대한 미국 소비자 만족도 점수는 전년 대비 2점 오른 847점이었다. 특히 테슬라를 제외한 전기차 만족도가 877점으로 역대 최고를 기록했다. 테슬라에 대한 만족도는 870점에 그쳤다. 출처: https://www.newsis.com/view/NISX20240729_0002830028

SK Telecom launches AI veterinary assistance service in Southeast Asia  The Korea Times - SK Telecom said Tuesday it has launched its artificial intelligence-based veterinary care assistance service X Caliber in Southeast Asia. The mobile carrier signed a deal with local companies to supply X Caliber in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam, according to the Korean company. X Caliber is an AI-based veterinary X-ray image diagnosis assistance service launched in Korea in 2022. The service is already available in Thailand and Vietnam and will arrive in Malaysia in the third quarter, the company explained. SKT also launched the service in Australia and North America earlier this year. '기단 현대화' 나서는 대한항공, 탄소 배출량도 줄인다   오늘경제 전준형 기자 - 대한항공이 해외 항공노선 추가 확보와 함께 탄소 배출량을 줄여 그동안 펼쳐온 ESG 경영에도 더욱 속도를 낼 것으로 보인다. 앞서 대한항공은 SAF 사용 활성화와 탄소 배출 감축을 위해 지난 2023년 9월부터 고객 참여형 SAF 프로그램을 실시하고 있다.  또한 지난 6월에는 글로벌 물류 기업인 세바로지스틱스와 파트너십을 체결해 SAF 사용에 따른 탄소 배출량 저감 실적을 공유하는 것으로 알려졌다. SAF는 화석연료가 아닌 폐식용유·사탕수수 등 친환경 원료를 통해 생산한 항공 연료다. 뿐만 아니라, 최근 미국 항공기 제조사 보잉과 항공기 최대 50대를 구매하는 MOU를 체결해 화제를 모으기도 했다. 이는 약 30조원 규모로 대한항공 사상 최대 규모의 항공기 주문 계약이다. 대한한공은 해당 계약으로 보잉의 최첨단 기종인 '777-9' 20대와 '787-10' 30대를 도입할 예정으로 알려졌다.  이에 대해 대한항공 관계자는 "아시아나항공 통합 이후 대한항공 기단에서 미주 서부, 유럽 등 핵심 노선에 투입되는 등 중추적인 역할을 맡게 될 것"이라고 설명했다.  업계 안팎에서는 '777-9'의 경우 777 계열 항공기 중 가장 안정적이며 효율적인 항공기로 평가받는다. 특히 미주·유럽 등 장거리 운항이 가능해, 운항거리가 1만 3000㎞ 이상으로 인천공항을 출발해 미국 전지역 운항이 가능한 것으로 전해졌다.  조원태 한진그룹 회장은 "대한항공의 기단 확대 및 업그레이드라는 전략 목표에 중요한 이정표가 될 것"이라며 "이번 항공기 구매 계약을 통해 승객의 편안함과 운항 효율성을 높이는 동시에 탄소 배출량을 크게 줄여 지속가능 경영을 위한 장기적 노력을 뒷받침할 것"이라고 말했다. 출처: https://www.startuptoday.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=322283

Toss Securities to launch US subsidiary this year   By Im Eun-byel, The Korea Herald - Toss Securities, a brokerage arm under financial technology giant Viva Republica, announced Tuesday that it plans to establish a subsidiary in the US to explore further business opportunities in the country. The US entity, a 100 percent-owned subsidiary of Toss Securities, will be founded within this year under the name of Toss Securities Americas. The establishment was approved through a board meeting of the brokerage unit. Toss Securities Chief Financial Officer Kim Kyung-soo is to serve as the inaugural head of the new entity. Before joining Toss in June 2023, he worked at US semiconductor equipment manufacturer Applied Materials and the state-run Korea Development Bank. Through the newly launched subsidiary, Toss Securities aims to expand cooperation with securities firms and asset managers in the US, the company explained. The US expansion comes as Korean investors are increasingly active in the US stock market. After introducing real-time fractional US share trading in 2022, Toss Securities has maintained some 20 percent market share in Korea's portion of stock transactions on the US market. Led by the growing trade volume of US stocks, the total overseas shares traded through Toss reached 68.56 trillion won ($50 billion) last year. INSPIRE debuts Korean contemporary art series with 'NEW STRUCTURE: PRISM'   By Pyo Kyung-min, The Korea Times - Mohegan Inspire Entertainment Resort has unveiled its latest cultural offering, an art exhibition titled "NEW STRUCTURE: PRISM," featuring works of Korean sculptor and installation artist Gwon O-sang. Housed in the integrated resort's Rotunda — a versatile circular hall known for its kinetic chandelier — the "NEW STRUCTURE: PRISM" exhibition marks the inaugural initiative of its "Inspire Art Series," a collaboration between the resort and The Trinity Gallery to showcase Korean art and artists to the global audience. Gwon, the first artist of the project, has received international acclaim for his unique approach to sculpture, transforming two-dimensional photographs into three-dimensional sculptures and installations. The Rotunda, a central feature of the resort, attracts visitors with its dynamic digital chandelier and Gwon's artworks. The chandelier, which moves up and down, projects changing imagery that enhances the environment. Gwon’s large-scale photographic sculptures, which offer new interpretations of everyday objects, further enrich this distinctive space by adding depth and dimension. During an opening reception for the exhibition at the Inspire Resort's Rotunda, Yeongjong Island, Incheon, Thursday, Gwon graced the stage to express his gratitude in being able to kickstart the resort's new art series. "I am delighted to hold the largest exhibition of 'New Structure' at Inspire. The Rotunda’s circular space will allow visitors to fully appreciate the diverse facets of 'New Structure,' delivering new perspectives and meanings," Gwon said. The exhibition features seven of Gwon's large-scale works, including "New Structure 2 Shoes & Pineapple;" "New Structure 4 Prism & Macallan," commissioned by the whisky brand Macallan; and "New Structure 7 Star & Spoon," which criticizes modern capitalism. Other works include "New Structure 14," reflecting contemporary imagery; "New Structure 8 Black Bird & Crystal," the largest piece in the exhibition; "New Structure 15," focusing on the physical properties of sculptural materials; and "New Structure 6 Key & Blue," inspired by Gwon’s travels to Okinawa. The Inspire, located just 10 minutes from Incheon International Airport, is the first Asian outpost for the American casino and gaming company Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE). The resort offers a diverse range of artistic experiences, including the digital street Aurora.
