EVENT DESCRIPTION
September 2 marks the commencement of the regular session of the 22nd National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, coinciding with the two-month countdown to the U.S. presidential election.
In this crucial context, strengthening the Korea-U.S. alliance is of paramount importance. To address this, we are honored to invite National Assembly member Wi Sung-lac and more than four other National Assembly members from the Forum for Advanced Diplomacy(official National Assembly research forum).
This event will provide AMCHAM members with a unique opportunity to interact directly with multiple National Assembly members who are keen on advancing Korea-U.S. relations. They will provide invaluable insights into the policy directions and priorities of the National Assembly and the Korean government for the next four years, particularly in the Korea-U.S. relationship.
Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the strategic directions for businesses operating in Korea and beyond, fostering a more mature and robust Korea-U.S. partnership within the current legislative context.

About the Speaker

[Speaker] Wi Sung-lac, Member of the National Assembly, Former Korean Ambassador to Russia

Wi Sung-lac is a distinguished member of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea. With a 36-year career as a diplomat, Mr. Wi has held numerous significant positions, particularly in relation to ROK-US relations and the North Korean nuclear issue. His notable roles include serving as the Director-General of the North American Affairs Bureau, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Korean Embassy in the United States, Chief Negotiator in the Six-Party Talks, Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs, and Ambassador to Russia.

[Moderator] Ji Eun Chung, CEO of CODIT Corp.

Ms. Ji Eun Chung is the CEO of CODIT Corp., a leading regulatory platform that integrates advanced technology with extensive policy expertise. With over 15 years of international policy experience at the OECD, UNESCO, and the World Bank, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her roles. She serves on the Presidential Digital Government Platform Committee and the National Strategy Committee under the Ministry of Strategy and Finance. Additionally, she co-chairs the AMCHAM Government and International Affairs Committee.

[Panelist] Choi Hyung-du, Member of the National Assembly, Former Journalist at Munhwa Ilbo

Choi Hyung-du is a 2nd term member of the National Assembly of South Korea, serving as the vice-chairperson of the Science, ICT, Broadcasting, and Communications Committee.
He began his career as a journalist at Munhwa Ilbo in 1998, later becoming the newspaper's labor union chairman and Washington,
D.C. correspondent. He made his political debut in 2012 as the Deputy Minister for Public Relations and spokesperson in the Prime Minister's Secretariat. He then served as the Public Relations Planning Secretary in the Office of President Park Geun-hye and as a spokesperson for the National Assembly. Elected to the 21st National Assembly for Masanhappo-gu, Changwon City, Choi focuses on regional development and advancing high-tech industries.
Choi holds a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from Seoul National University and a Master's in Public Administration from Harvard University.

[Panelist] Ihn Yohan, Member of the National Assembly, Former Chairman of the International Health Care Center in Severance Hospital

Ihn Yohan is a member of 22nd National Assembly of South Korea, serving on the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee. After the party's by-election loss in October, he was appointed head of the People Power Party's Innovation Committee, where he led key reform initiatives.

[Panelist] Cha Jiho, Member of the National Assembly, Chairperson of the AI Future Strategy Special Committee, Democratic Party, Associate Professor at Moon Soul Graduate School of Future Strategy, KAIST

Dr. Cha Jiho is a member of South Korea's 22nd National Assembly, representing Osan-si, Gyeonggi Province. A strong advocate for healthcare reform and AI innovation, he leads initiatives like establishing an AI public healthcare R&D cluster in his constituency. He serves on the Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee and focuses on welfare policies for marginalized communities.
