New York City, LG CNS and AMCHAM Korea Unite in a DX Partnership 

to lead Sustainable Growth and Technological Innovation

Agreement is part of new initiatives to explore opportunities for collaboration and resource-sharing to leverage the latest DX technologies in New York City and foster future IT talent

This MOU establishes a comprehensive framework for cooperation with a primary focus on stimulating investments from Korean companies into New York City. AMCHAM and LG CNS will collaborate to identify and motivate Korean companies of all sizes to pursue these investment opportunities, with strong support from New York City.

This partnership involves an agreement among the three organizations to collaborate in identifying technology partnership opportunities that harness cutting-edge DX technologies like AI, digital twins, IoT, and blockchain to address the technical requirements of New York City; provide internship programs to undergraduate students based in New York City; and offer support to Minority and Women-owned Business Enterprises (M/WBEs) located in New York City.

“New York is back and open for business, and we want to make sure we are supporting everyone who wants to invest in our city, including international companies,” said New York City Mayor Eric Adams. “Under this administration, New York City has set an all-time record high for the number of total jobs, and this memo of understanding between New York City, LG CNS, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea represents another step in the right direction by bringing training and opportunities to working people across the five boroughs. LG CNS is a world leader in electronic manufacturing and IT, and we can’t wait to welcome them to New York City.”

The relationship forged between New York City, LG CNS, and AMCHAM Korea is historic. It will have a deep impact on New Yorkers and Minority and Women-Owned Business Enterprises. This is another example of Mayor Eric Adams and our administration’s successful efforts to boost the economy of the five boroughs of New York City.”

“This marks AMCHAM’s third MOU with the New York City, following agreements with Korean Air and SPC Paris Baguette. I firmly believe that this agreement is yet another symbol of the remarkable synergy between the U.S. and Korea,” said AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim. “This MOU aligns perfectly with AMCHAM’s mission. With this MOU, LG CNS is expected to explore business opportunities and expand its footprint in North America in areas such as smart city, e-government, and cloud. LG CNS plans to establish its branch in New York City with detailed discussions with the New York City and AMCHAM. With the New York branch as a base, the company plans to strengthen its cooperation with the city and AMCHAM.

뉴욕시-LG CNS-주한미국상공회의소, 기술 혁신과 지속 가능한 성장을 위한 DX 파트너십 구축 위해 MOU 체결

미래 IT 인재 육성과 뉴욕시 기술 지원을 위한 협업 및 자원 공유 등 다양한 이니셔티브 모색   

2023년 11월 3일 – 에릭 애덤스 (Eric Adams) 뉴욕시장, 현신균 LG CNS 대표이사, 제임스 김 주한미국상공회의소 (AMCHAM, 이하 암참) 회장 겸 대표이사가 3자간 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다. 이번 협약을 통해 3자는 뉴욕시의 경제 성장 및 교육 개선, 기술 혁신 촉진이라는 중대한 목표를 위한 중대한 걸음을 내딛었다.  

본 MOU는 뉴욕시로의 한국 기업 투자 활성화에 중점을 두고 포괄적 협력 체계를 구축하기 위한 것으로, 암참과 LG CNS는 앞으로 규모 불문 다양한 한국 기업들이 뉴욕시에 투자를 고려할 수 있도록 대상 발굴 및 동기부여에 힘쓰는 한편 뉴욕시 또한 강력한 지원을 약속했다. 

LG CNS와 뉴욕시·암참은 이번 MOU를 통해 △AI, 디지털 트윈, IoT, 블록체인 등 DX 신기술의 뉴욕시 적용을 위한 테크놀로지 파트너십(Technology Partnership) △뉴욕시 소재 대학생 대상 인턴십 프로그램 제공 △뉴욕시 소수인종·여성기업(M/WBE, Minority and Women owned Business Enterprises) 지원 등 협력에 나설 계획이다.  

에릭 애덤스 뉴욕시장은 먼저, “뉴욕은 새로운 기회를 향해 열려 있고, 언제나 비즈니스를 맞을 준비가 되어있다. 우리 도시에 투자하고 싶어하는 모든 이들을 확실히 지원하고자 노력하고 있으며, 글로벌 기업도 예외는 아니다.” 라고 말했다. 그는 또한, “이번 행정부 하에 뉴욕시는 사상 최고의 일자리 수를 기록했고, 이번 MOU를 통해 또한 3사는 5개 자치구에 걸쳐 많은 뉴요커 들에게 훌륭한 훈련과 기회를 제공하는 등 함께 의미 있는 발걸음을 내딛었다고 생각한다.” 라고 덧붙였다. 그는 또한, “전자 제조 및 IT 분야의 세계적인 선두 기업인LG CNS를 뉴욕에서 맞을 그 날을 고대한다.” 라고 말하며 설레임을 감추지 않았다.  

또한 에드워드 머멀스틴 뉴욕시 국제협력청장은 “이번 파트너십은 글로벌 비즈니스 중심지로서 뉴욕시의 역할과, 뉴욕시에 대한 한국 기업들의 기여의 반증.” 이라고 말했다. 그는 또한, “뉴욕 시, LG CNS, 암참의 이번 MOU는 역사적으로 큰 의미.” 라고 말하며, “이번 MOU는 뉴욕 시민들과 소수자 및 여성 소유 기업들에 큰 영향을 미칠 것이며, 이는 뉴욕시 5개 자치구의 경제를 활성화시키기 위한 에릭 아담스 시장과 우리 행정부의 성공적인 노력을 보여주는 또 다른 좋은 예가 될 것.” 이라고 덧붙였다.  

현신균 LG CNS 대표이사는 또한, “이번 전략적 협력을 통해 DX 신기술을 기반으로 한 뉴욕시의 지속가능한 성장을 돕겠다”고 강조했다.   

제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 대표이사는 “이번 MOU는 대한항공, SPC 파리바게뜨에 이어 암참과 뉴욕시가 함께 맺은 세 번째 협약이다. 이는 한·미 양국 간 놀라운 시너지를 보여주는 또 다른 상징일 뿐만 아니라, 한·미 양국의 SME를 포함한 더 많은 기업들이 각국에서 성공할 수 있도록 지원하는 암참의 주요 미션과도 정확히 일치한다.”며, “오늘 우리는 이 비전을 실현하는 데 한 걸음 더 다가섰다. 암참은 이번 MOU를 토대로 앞으로도 지속적으로 한국 기업의 뉴욕 투자를 장려해 나가겠다.”고 소감을 밝혔다.  

LG CNS는 이번 파트너십을 계기로 북미 지역에서 △스마트시티 △전자정부 △클라우드 등 분야에서 사업을 확대해 나갈 수 있을 것으로 기대하는 한편, LG CNS는 뉴욕시·암참과 구체적 협의를 거쳐 뉴욕 현지 지사 설립 추진을 검토할 예정이다. 뉴욕 지사를 거점으로 뉴욕시·암참과의 협력을 강화한다는 계획이다.
