AMCHAM Proposes Exemption from Mandatory 14-day Quarantine for Travelers Vaccinated in the U.S. May 20, 2021 - The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) submitted a letter today to the Korean government to request an exemption from or reduction of the mandatory 14-day quarantine for inbound travelers who have received their vaccinations in the U.S., similar to the exemption being given for those who received their vaccinations in Korea. The letter suggests that the Korean government can verify travelers’ vaccinations by requiring them to present certificates with their personal details as well as details about the medical facility at which they were vaccinated. This exemption can take the form of a reduced quarantine period from 14 days to 3 days, and may be implemented on a pilot basis with markets that have high rates of vaccination, such as the U.S., or even with designated cities or flights. AMCHAM believes that a quarantine exemption or reduction would facilitate a resumption of business travel that is important for continued foreign investment into Korea. The event, held in a hybrid online-offline format, was designed to explore global trends and prospects for companies considering ESG management strategies. Featuring prominent speakers such as Chargé d'Affaires ad interim Robert Rapson of the U.S. Embassy in Seoul and H.E. American companies show strongest commitment todriving gender diversity in Korea, according to the results of recent AMCHAM survey on diversity & inclusion April 29, 2021 - A study on diversity & inclusion practices conducted by the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) in partnership with Morgan Philips Korea, a member company of AMCHAM, showed that American companies show the strongest commitment to driving gender diversity as a critical business imperative. This is the first survey of its kind to explore how MNCs’ company-wide diversity & inclusion (D&I) initiatives are practiced, localized and perceived in Korea. AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim said, “The results of this survey were eye-opening about the state of D&I initiatives at global companies in Korea. Hopefully these results will provide our member companies with the data they need to enhance their diversity policies and implement global D&I programs locally.” He added, “We would like to thank all the members who shared their experiences and provided thoughtful insights on how AMCHAM can continue to promote D&I initiatives in the global business community.” The results of the research are below. Additional information is available through the attached survey result report.Prioritizing Gender Diversity 87% of respondents agreed that promoting gender diversity can lead to successful business outcomes. 89% of respondents who work for American companies reported that their companies have shown strong commitment to driving gender diversity as a critical business imperative, compared to 72% of European companies and 38% of Korean company respondents. American companies appear to be at the forefront of leading D&I initiatives, especially compared to Korean companies.Communication and Localization Results show a large discrepancy between respondents’ perception of their companies’ communication of D&I values at the global level and whether such efforts are actually localized and implemented in Korea. While 48% of respondents strongly agreed that global initiatives are well-communicated, only 19% answered they strongly agree that such initiatives are well-localized and implemented.Perception of Progress & Fairness 69% of respondents agreed with the statement that gender equality has improved over the past five years. However, there is a perception gap between male and female respondents on the type of progress that has been made. 40% of men reported feeling that all employees get fair treatment in terms of career advancement, as opposed to 28% of women, and 79% of men reported feeling that all employees get fair treatment in terms of compensation, as opposed to 70% of women.Barriers and Areas for Improvement 62% cited cultural and societal norms in Korea as the biggest barriers in breaking down the glass ceiling for women. The AMCHAM-SMG Internship Program is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project initiated in the spirit of providing young jobseekers (18~34 years old) with potential employment opportunities at select corporations, and AMCHAM has encouraged participation from its key member companies. AMCHAM Board of Governors to Lead Initiatives to Optimize Korean Business Environment

January 7, 2021 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) is pleased to announce its annual leadership for 2021. With 34 members, the new Board of Governors is now more diverse and inclusive than ever before.
