CHEA, Korea JoongAng Daily - James Kim, the
chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM), and Michelle
Steel, U.S. ambassador to Korea, held a meeting on Thursday to discuss ways to
expand trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting
marked Ambassador Steel's first official engagement with business leaders since
she took office late last month.
The two also
explored ways to highlight the significance of the Korea-U.S. alliance and the
two countries' economic partnership at the roundtable, which was also attended
by senior executives from major U.S. companies operating in Korea.
Participants
emphasized that a predictable business environment aligned with global
standards is essential to sustaining American companies' continued investment
and smooth business operations in Korea, Amcham said.
“Ambassador
Steel brings a deep understanding of both countries and a strong commitment to
advancing their shared interests,” Kim said. "Her early engagement with
business leaders sends a clear and encouraging message about the importance of
American companies to the U.S.-Korea economic partnership.”
Ambassador
Steel stressed the important role American companies play in strengthening the
U.S.-ROK economic partnership and underscored her commitment to working closely
with AMCHAM to address challenges facing U.S. businesses, improve the operating
environment, and identify new opportunities to advance American prosperity.
