    AMCHAM, in partnership with The New York Times, is delighted to host a special event featuring a keynote speech by Hannah Yang, Chief Growth & Customer Officer at The New York Times, followed by a fireside chat with Tom Friedman, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and Foreign Affairs Opinion Columnist. Hannah will share her insights on leading The Times’ global transformation, while Tom will provide his expert analysis on America’s rapidly evolving role in the world.

    About the Speaker
    • Hannah Yang, Chief Growth & Customer Officer

      Hannah Yang is the Chief Growth and Customer Officer at The New York Times Company, leading its global subscription business. She co-leads a cross-functional organization consisting of product development, engineering, data, design, marketing, research, customer care, and sales to drive The Times’s subscription growth across its portfolio of products. Prior to joining The Times, she was an attorney at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and a management consultant at Katzenbach Partners LLC (now a part of Strategy&).

      She serves on the Board of Empire State Realty Trust, a leading real estate investment trust, and chairs the Board of The New York Times Communities Fund, The Times' largest and oldest nonprofit that has supported people in dire financial circumstances for more than 100 years. She has until recently been on the Board of The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, Scholastic's nonprofit that has been supporting creative teens since 1923.

      Hannah graduated from Harvard College, Harvard Law School, and The Juilliard Pre-College Division. She immigrated to the United States from Korea at the age of nine. She lives in New York with her husband and has two sons.
    • Tom Friedman, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist & Foreign Affairs Opinion Columnist

      Thomas L. Friedman became the paper’s foreign affairs Opinion columnist in 1995. He joined the paper in 1981, after which he served as the Beirut bureau chief in 1982, Jerusalem bureau chief in 1984, in Washington as the diplomatic correspondent in 1989 and later the White House correspondent and economic correspondent.

      Mr. Friedman was awarded the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for international reporting (from Lebanon) and the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for international reporting (from Israel). He also won the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for commentary.

      Mr. Friedman is the author of “From Beirut to Jerusalem,” which won the National Book Award in 1989. He has written several other books, including “Hot, Flat and Crowded,” an international best seller.

      Born in Minneapolis, Mr. Friedman received a B.A. in Mediterranean studies from Brandeis University in 1975. In 1978 he received a master’s in modern Middle East studies from Oxford. His column appears every Sunday and Wednesday.
