    EVENT DESCRIPTION
    You are cordially invited to join us on Tuesday, December 10th for an update on key tax law amendments that will go into effect in 2025 as well as opportunities for obtaining substantial cash grants from the Korean government for new investments. Though most tax exemptions for foreign direct investment were abolished some time ago, many foreign multinationals have qualified for significant cash grants, which may be more desirable than the previous tax exemptions. Come be a part of the discussion, as we examine what is available, the process involved and success stories.

    About the Speaker

    • Philje Cho, Partner, Lee & Ko
      Mr. Philje Cho is a partner in the tax group at Lee & Ko, where he has been practicing since 2017. He focuses on international tax matters, including litigation and consulting. In 2023, he earned his LL.M. in International Taxation from New York University. From 2023 to 2024, he worked at Ernst & Young’s New York office, further enhancing his international tax expertise.

      Mr. Cho is an active participant in research activities related to international taxation. He presented on “Pillar One: Overview and Issues” at a seminar hosted by IFA Korea and published a paper on the same topic in the Journal of IFA Korea. Additionally, he contributed an article titled “Korea’s Ongoing Royalties Tax Dispute with U.S. Tech Companies” to Tax Notes International.

    • Robert Browell, Partner, Corporate & International Tax, Samil PricewaterhouseCoopers
      Robert is a partner in the Corporate & International Tax Services Team at Samil PwC and has 22 years of experience in providing tax services to multinational clients including a large number of US groups operating in a range of different industry sectors in Korea.

      Robert helps multinational groups understand the tax related issues with investing and doing business in Korea. His main areas of focus including advising on foreign direct investment into Korea, cross-border transactions and mergers & acquisitions. He frequently also assists groups with their Korean tax compliance matters and defense of tax investigations.

      Robert also currently serves as Chairperson of the Taxation Committee at the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea and a special advisor to the Executive Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce.
