AMCHAM and the National Assembly Research Service Join Forces to Enhance Korea’s Business Environment

This agreement aims to advocate for mutual and close cooperation between the two organizations in policy development to facilitate greater investment and enhance the business environment in Korea.

The signing ceremony, attended by AMCHAM Korea Chairman & CEO James Kim and Chief of the National Assembly Research Service Park Sang-Chul, marks yet another significant milestone in AMCHAM's primary mission to facilitate South Korea's emergence as number one business hub within the Asia-Pacific region.

The MOU underscores the commitment of both organizations to work closely to: share information and establish collaborative networks to enhance the investment environment for the U.S. and Korean companies; conduct joint research and seminars on key policy issues; and analyze and support legislative processes related to foreign investment and business activities.

James Kim, Chairman & CEO of AMCHAM, remarked, “This partnership underscores our shared dedication to driving positive change to facilitate greater investment. AMCHAM looks forward to working closely with the incoming 22nd National Assembly and NARS to lend support in their legislative efforts and to create a competitive business environment in Korea.”

Park Sang-Chul, Chief of the National Assembly Research Service said, “Both organizations look forward to playing a crucial role in enhancing the business environment in Korea and the United States, fostering business activities among companies in both nations.”

This agreement shall remain effective for a term of three years from May 9, 2024, and may be extended by mutual consent.

주한미국상공회의소, 국회입법조사처와 상호협력 업무협약 (MOU) 체결

한·미 투자유치 촉진 및 국내 기업 경영 환경 개선을 위한 정책 수립에 있어 상호 긴밀한 협력 약속

2024년 5월 9일 – 주한미국상공회의소(암참; 회장 겸 대표이사 제임스 김)가 오늘 국회도서관에서 국회입법조사처와 국내 경영 환경 개선을 위한 상호협력 업무협약(MOU)을 체결했다.

이번 업무 협약식에는 제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 대표이사와 박상철 국회입법조사처장 등이 참석한 가운데 양 기관은 앞으로 한·미 투자유치 촉진 및 국내 기업 경영 환경 개선을 위한 정책 수립에 있어 상호 긴밀한 협력을 이어갈 방침이다.

이번 MOU는 대한민국을 아·태지역 제1의 비즈니스 허브로 부상케 하고자 하는 암참의 미션 실현을 위한 또 하나의 초석이 될 것으로 보인다. 양 기관은 협약 목적의 원활한 달성을 위해 ▲한·미 양국 기업 투자 환경 개선 관련 정보공유 및 협업체계 구축 ▲주요 사안에 관한 공동연구 및 세미나 개최 ▲외국인 투자 및 기업활동 관련 입법정책 분석 및 지원 등에 대하여 상호 긴밀히 협력하여 나가기로 뜻을 모았다.

제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 대표이사는, “국회입법조사처와의 이번 파트너십을 통해 투자 촉진을 위한 긍정적인 변화를 이끄는데 일조할 수 있기를 기대한다.”고 밝히며, “암참은 또한 보다 경쟁력 있는 비즈니스 환경 조성을 위해 국회입법조사처는 물론 앞으로 출범할 22대 국회와도 긴밀히 협력하여 나갈 것.” 이라고 말했다.

그는 이어, “앞으로도 암참은 한·미 양국 정부와 재계간 연결고리로서의 핵심적인 역할을 이어 나감은 물론, 대한민국의 아·태지역본부로서의 매력을 극대화하기 위해 다방면으로 적극 지원해 나가겠다.”고 덧붙였다.

박상철 국회입법조사처장은 “양 기관은 한국과 미국의 기업환경을 개선하고 양국 기업의 경제활동을 촉진하는 데에 핵심적인 역할을 기대한다.” 고 밝혔다.

본 협약은 2024년 5월 9일부터 3년간 유효하며, 필요시 추후 협상을 통해 연장할 예정이다.
