The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) announced that Eric John, President of Boeing Korea, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the AMCHAM Council on Innovation for the Future (ACIF).“I am honored to take on this position and look forward to working with fellow leaders of the U.S. and Korean business communities in helping Korea develop its innovative capacity,” said the new Chairman, commenting on his new appointment. “To help forge new strategic partnership between Korea and the United States in line with President Park Geun-hye’s ‘creative economy’ initiative, I will work hard as the Council Chairman to bring American innovative DNA and knowhow into the Korean economy and also to share our unique experiences and best practices with Korean SMEs,” he commented. AMCHAM launched the Council in October 2012 with the aim of promoting innovation and new business partnerships in Korea. To date, the Council has organized a number of “Innovation Camps” at local universities outside of Seoul, including in Chungcheongbuk-do, Busan, Daegu, and Gangwon-do, where leading AMCHAM member CEOs mentored Korean students on how to hone their skills to get a job at a multinational company. The next Innovation Camp will be held at the Chungnam National University in Daejeon in April. The Council is expanding its activities by hosting an Innovation Luncheon Series, the 1st of which was held in February. Eric John was named President of Boeing Korea and Vice President of Boeing International in May 2014. Prior to this role, John was a career member of the U.S. Senior Foreign Service for 31 years. ###AMCHAM Korea was founded in 1953, with a broad mandate to encourage the development of investment and trade between the Republic of Korea and the United States. AMCHAM is the largest foreign chamber in Korea with around 900 member companies with diverse interests and substantial participation in the Korean economy.
