(한글은 아래 참조) May 23, 2018 (Seoul) - The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) will host the “AMCHAM Seminar on Digitalization of the Shipping Industry” at the Grand Hyatt Seoul on Thursday, May 24, 2018. This is the second annual AMCHAM seminar specializing in the shipping industry, with the theme "Digitalization and Future of the Shipping Industry.” To keep up with the market’s complexity, pace and growing competition, the ocean carrier industry is in the process of updating old-fashioned ways of handling shipping processes. As expanding digital capabilities becomes increasingly essential for competition on the global stage, stakeholders in the shipping industry have begun exploring innovative ways through which to advance the industry. Companies such as Maersk Line and IBM have begun utilizing blockchain technology in order to cut costs and risks, and increase efficiency. AMCHAM Pursues Fair and Balanced Trade between U.S. and Korea

(한글은 아래 참조) May 15, 2018 ? The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) hosted a Press Conference on Doorknock on May 15, 2018, at the AMCHAM office. AMCHAM leadership, represented by AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim, Chairman of AMCHAM Board of Governors Jeffrey Jones, and Former Chairman of AMCHAM David Ruch elaborated the specifics of what AMCHAM delegation proposed and discussed during their Doorknock visit to Washington D.C. last month. Chairman & CEO Kim began the conference by highlighting several factors that have led to stronger U.S. ? Korea relations. “The U.S.-Korea commercial relationship has seen much progress and development over the past year. AMCHAM’s efforts with the U.S. and Korean business communities and governments have led to a dramatic narrowing of the bilateral trade deficit.” Following Chairman Kim’s remarks, Chairman Jones delivered in-depth remarks about the three key messages that were delivered during the meetings at Washington D.C. He detailed 1) the reduction of the U.S. ? Korea bilateral trade deficit, 2) the business community’s appreciation for the agreement in principle on the KORUS FTA amendment, and 3) the implementation issues that remain. “Now that the agreement in principle on the KORUS FTA amendment has been announced, ensuring full and faithful implementation is top priority,” he remarked. “AMCHAM shared many of the trade barriers, market access issues and Korea-unique standards that AMCHAM member companies face with not only the Administration but also with the members of the Congress.” Finally, Former Chairman David Ruch elaborated on AMCHAM’s past contributions to achieve balanced trade and initiatives to continue these efforts. He delved into four meaningful opportunities for the U.S. and Korea to achieve a better trading balance on a win-win basis: 1. Defense: By increasing share of U.S. military hardware, Korea would be able to enhance combined force operability while increasing U.S. exports by $8.7 billion USD. 2. Energy: If Korea would increase U.S. energy imports to a 10% share of the country’s total energy spend, U.S. exports would increase by $9 billion USD per year. 3. Healthcare: If Korea would adjust their reimbursement mechanism to reach even 50% of the OECD average, it would generate a $3 billion USD in drug exports to Korea and provide its people with innovative medicines 4. Travel & Tourism: Enrolling just 10% of Korea’s eligible passport holders, or 700,000 people, could generate an additional 500,000 Korean visitors to the U.S. each year. This win-win solution provides Korean citizens with preferred entry into the U.S. and the U.S. would enjoy increased tourism exports. Around 20 members of press from both domestic and foreign media outlets were present at the press conference. AMCHAM Hosts Special CEO Lectures for Chungnam National University Students

April 9, 2018 ? The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) held the 13th AMCHAM Innovation Camp at Chungnam National University on April 9, 2018. The AMCHAM delegates, comprised of seven members of AMCHAM leadership and representatives from leading global companies, met with around 200 university students to share insight about how to improve their competitiveness in the global job market as well as their personal experiences working at global firms. National Assemblyman (Chairman of Legislation and Judiciary Committee) the Honorable Sang-Min Lee, and President of the Chungnam National University Deog-Seong Oh delivered the congratulatory remarks. (국문은 아래 참조) ?January 10, 2018 ? The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) hosted the AMCHAM General Membership Meeting (GMM) with General Vincent K. Brooks, Commander of United Nations Command (UNC)/Combined Forces Command (CFC)/United States Forces Korea (USFK), at the Grand Hyatt Seoul on January 10, 2018. In attendance were around 120 representatives from AMCHAM member companies and U.S. and Korean government officials. The event began with opening remarks by Jeffrey Jones, Chairman of AMCHAM Board of Governors, who welcomed attendees to AMCHAM’s first event of the year and outlined AMCHAM’s objectives for 2018. He closed remarks by thanking General Brooks for his efforts in securing stability on the Korean peninsula as well as the dedication of the servicemen and women protecting our nations under General Brooks’ leadership. Myung Chan Lee, Vice Chair of AMCHAM and Country Chief Executive of Lockheed Martin Global, Inc. ? Korea, greeted the attendees and delivered a New Year’s message. During his speech, General Brooks described important leadership lessons he received through his career. New Leadership to Promote “Win-Win” Partnership Between U.S. and Korea

Cordani, President and CEO of Cigna Corporation, as the new Chairman of the U.S.-Korea Business Council (USKBC). On December 15, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced that Mr. Cordani will take over the USKBC chairmanship with the end of Qualcomm Executive Chairman Dr. Paul Jacobs’ post. USKBC was founded in 1988 as a business advocacy organization aiming to strengthen ties between the U.S. and Korea. With the active participation of prominent business executives, the Council is considered a major channel of economic collaboration between the two nations. “With the revisions of the Korea ? U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA), the role of USKBC has grown,” said James Kim, Chairman & CEO of AMCHAM. “Through Chairman Cordani’s leadership, I am confident that we will be able to engage in a deeper discussion about the economic partnership between the two countries and establish a stronger platform for collaboration.” Since 2009, Chairman Cordani has provided insurance and healthcare services to thirty countries worldwide as President and CEO of Cigna Corporation.
