AMCHAM to Visit Washington D.C. to Serve as a Key Stakeholder in the Dialogue Between Trump and Moon…

from the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) will visit Washington
D.C. from Sunday, April 15, to Wednesday, April 18, 2018, to meet with key figures
of the Trump Administration, Congress and policy think tanks. Through these
visits, also known as “AMCHAM Doorknock,” the delegation will reaffirm Korea’s
status as U.S.’s strong and reliable ally as well as a close economic partner.
This
year’s delegation consists of James Kim,
Chairman & CEO of AMCHAM, Jeffrey
Jones, Chairman of AMCHAM Board of Governors, David Ruch, Former Chairman of AMCHAM and Country Manager-Korea of
United Airlines, Inc., Benjamin Hong,
CEO & President of Cigna Corporation, Dongwook
(Dave) Oh, Country Manager & Internal Medicine Lead of Pfizer Korea, Jae Yoo, Area Managing Director of
Johnson & Johnson Medical North Asia, Matthew
Shampine, General Manager of WeWork Korea, and David Kim, Vice President of
Hyundai Motor Company Washington Office.
The
delegation has secured more than 50 senior level meetings with the White House, U.S. Trade
Representative, Departments of State, Commerce, the Treasury, other government
institutions and think-tanks to highlight the mutual benefits of maintaining a strong
commercial relationship between the U.S. and Korea. They will also deliver
on-the-ground information on the U.S. business environment in Korea and provide
practical solutions to address ongoing issues. The delegation will also
reaffirm AMCHAM’s role as a bridge builder between the U.S. and Korean
governments.
Chairman
& CEO Kim stated, “With the many economic and geostrategic changes in both
the U.S. and Korea over the past few months, this year’s Doorknock will be a
great opportunity for us to address issues critical to the U.S.-Korea
relationship. Ongoing engagement with the U.S. and Korean governments are a
major part of our role as a bridge builder between the two countries.”

AMCHAM Doorknock Since
1985, a delegation from the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM
Korea) has visited Washington D.C. and on some occasions, New York, and other
cities every year to meet with senior officials and policy makers to inform and
discuss issues affecting U.S. companies doing business in Korea. These visits,
also known as “Doorknock,” are designed to draw key officials and policy
makers’ attention on the economic relationship between the United States and
Korea and highlight issues in bilateral trade and investment. Doorknock serves
to remind key U.S. leaders the importance of the U.S.-Korea economic
partnership and resolve misconceptions that often arise from communication
barriers, as well as the physical distance, between the two nations.

Korea was founded in 1953, with a broad mandate to encourage the development of
investment and trade between the Republic of Korea and the United States.
AMCHAM is the largest foreign chamber in Korea with around 700 member companies

대표, 유병재 한국존슨앤드존슨메디컬㈜ 대표이사/북아시아지역총괄사장, 매튜 샴파인 위워크코리아 지사장, 데이비드 김 현대자동차 워싱턴사무소장 등으로 구성되어 있다.
암참 도어녹 사절단은 백악관, 무역대표부, 국무부,
상무부, 재무부, 싱크탱크 등 주요 관료 및
정책 입안자들과 만나 약 50개의 회의에 참석한다. 이 회의들을 통해
암참 사절단은 견고한 한미 무역 관계가 가져다 주는 상호적 장점을 강조할 예정이다. 또한 주한 미국기업들의
국내 비즈니스 환경에 대한 현장 정보를 공유하고, 기업들의 고충에 대한 실질적인 해결책을 제시할 예정이다.

암참
도어녹 사절단은 암참 회장단과 회원사 대표단으로 구성되어 매년 워싱턴 D.C.를 방문해 한국에서
활동하는 미국 기업인으로서의 경험을 공유하고, 한국에 대한 올바른 이해를 증진하며 미국의 경제 동향을 파악하는
암참의 주요 연례회의 중 하나이다. 매년 상반기 약 10여명의 사절단이
방미해 백악관을 비롯한 국무부, 상무부, 재무부 등 경제 통상 부처
각료는 물론 미 의회 의원 및 보좌관, 다수의 기관과 싱크탱크 관계자를 만나 한미 간의 각종 통상 현안을
놓고 나흘의 일정 동안 50여개의 회의를 진행한다. 2017년
5월에 개최되었던 도어녹은 트럼프 행정부가 수립된 이후 첫 방미 일정으로서 그 중요성을 입증할 수 있었다.
