2021년 1월 20일 – 주한미국상공회의소(이하 “암참”)는 현지 시간 20일 취임하는 조 바이든 제 6대 미국 대통령에게 축전을 전달하고 새로운 미 행정부의 정책을 적극 지원할 의지를 밝혔다.

암참은 한국 내 미국 기업들을 대표해 암참 제임스 김 회장 겸 대표이사와 제프리 존스 이사회 회장 공동 명의의 축전을 통해 “암참은 바이든 대통령의 리더십이 국제사회의 번영과 안정을 재확립하는데 결정적인 역할을 할 것이라 확신한다”고 밝혔다.

1953년 한국전쟁 직후 설립된 암참은 한미 양국의 파트너십의 발자취를 함께 걸었다며 “양국 간 공정하고 자유로운 무역에 기반한 상호 호혜적인 관계를 실현하기 위해 한미 동맹과 경제 협력을 더욱 강화하기 위한 바이든 행정부의 노력을 지원하겠다”고 말했다.

한편 지난 2013년 바이든 당시 부통령이 방한했을 때 암참은 기업인 간담회를 마련해 바이든 대통령의 한미 동맹의 중요성에 대한 생각을 직접 듣기도 했다.  암참은 한미동맹은 안보와 외교 뿐 아니라 경제적인 측면에서도 상호 간 매우 중요한 가치를 지니고 있다며 “암참은 양국의 정부와 의회에 한미 간 경제 파트너십의 가치를 전달함과 동시에 일자리 창출과 경제 성장으로 이어지는 상호 간 투자를 촉진해 나갈 것”이라고 말했다.
