Hyundai, Kia sell more than 500,000 green vehicles in Europe
By Pulse -Sales of electric vehicles at Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. have surpassed 500,000 units in Europe, the leading eco-friendly vehicle market, nine years after the launch of their first such vehicle in April 2014. The automakers have consolidated its position in Europe, where the share of eco-friendly vehicles in sales is close to 50 percent.
According to investor relation
data at Hyundai and Kia on Sunday, the automakers sold a total of 508,422 EVs
in the European market in the first four months of this year. Hyundai and Kia
sold 273,879 and 234,543 units, respectively. This represents 42% of the
automakers’ total global EV sales of 1.28 million units. The achievement is
especially significant in the European market, where eco-friendly vehicles
account for nearly half of new car sales.
According to the European
Automobile Industry Association, a total of 3.24 million vehicles were sold in
the European market in the first quarter of this year, of which 46.5% were
electric, hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles. In the U.S. and
China, the share of green vehicles sold last year was 12.3% and 31.2%,
respectively.
