BY JIN EUN-SOO, Korea JoongAng Daily - The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) hosted the Amcham Automotive Summit 2024 on Tuesday, where leaders of UL Solutions and GM Korea gathered to discuss sustainable initiatives for the auto industry. The summit was held under the theme "Future Mobility Technology: Safety, Security and Sustainability."

"With rapid technological advancements and a growing emphasis on sustainability, our industry is witnessing profound shifts in how we innovate, manufacture and consume vehicles," AMCHAM Chairman and CEO James Kim said in his opening remarks at the event.

"Sustainability is key to the U.S.-Korea alliance. At Amcham, we believe in the power of collaboration and innovation. Our partnership with UL Solutions helps empower automotive companies to achieve their sustainability goals."

UL Solutions, a U.S. company specializing in developing safety standards, conducting tests and issuing certifications for automotive companies, co-hosted the Tuesday event with Amcham.

Expressing excitement at co-hosting, UL Solutions CEO Jennifer Scanlon said at the event, "The Korean automotive industry is a global powerhouse, and we are honored to work with our valued customers during this dynamic time. Together we are building a future that is not only thriving but also safer, more secure, and more sustainable.”

UL Solutions' Terrence F. Alger, vice president of Applied Research and Development, delivered a keynote speech on "Trends in Sustainability and the Auto Industry" where he emphasized that the "safety of innovations" is vital for an auto industry heading toward net-zero emissions goals, adding that the company can play a role in securing such safety.
