AMCHAM hosts automotive summit on sustainability with UL Solutions, GM Korea

JoongAng Daily - The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) hosted the
Amcham Automotive Summit 2024 on Tuesday, where leaders of UL Solutions and GM
Korea gathered to discuss sustainable initiatives for the auto industry. The
summit was held under the theme "Future Mobility Technology: Safety,
Security and Sustainability."
"With rapid
technological advancements and a growing emphasis on sustainability, our
industry is witnessing profound shifts in how we innovate, manufacture and
consume vehicles," AMCHAM Chairman and CEO James Kim said in his opening
remarks at the event.
"Sustainability
is key to the U.S.-Korea alliance. At Amcham, we believe in the power of
collaboration and innovation. Our partnership with UL Solutions helps empower
automotive companies to achieve their sustainability goals."
UL Solutions, a U.S.
company specializing in developing safety standards, conducting tests and
issuing certifications for automotive companies, co-hosted the Tuesday event
with Amcham.
Expressing
excitement at co-hosting, UL Solutions CEO Jennifer Scanlon said at the event,
"The Korean automotive industry is a global powerhouse, and we are honored
to work with our valued customers during this dynamic time. Together we are
building a future that is not only thriving but also safer, more secure, and
more sustainable.”
UL Solutions'
Terrence F. Alger, vice president of Applied Research and Development,
delivered a keynote speech on "Trends in Sustainability and the Auto
Industry" where he emphasized that the "safety of innovations"
is vital for an auto industry heading toward net-zero emissions goals, adding
that the company can play a role in securing such safety.
Ji Sun-ho, managing
director at GM Korea's Product Safety, Validation, Certification and Test Labs,
presented the company's "Triple Zero" vision, striving for "zero
crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion."
