EVENT DESCRIPTION
In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-ROK alliance and the founding of AMCHAM, AMCHAM, in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Embassy Seoul, will host Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin and U.S. Ambassador to ROK Philip Goldberg for a special luncheon. During the event, the distinguished guests will discuss the importance of the U.S.-ROK alliance in the context of the broader geopolitical landscape, implications of the recent U.S.-ROK summit, as well as economic priorities and partnership opportunities between the two countries going forward.

About the Speaker

H.E. Park Jin, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea

Dr. Park Jin is the 40th Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea since May 2022.

Dr. Park is a Member of the 21st National Assembly, and previously served as the Chairman of Foreign Affairs, Trade and National Unification Committee of the National Assembly (2008-2010). In that capacity, he passed the KORUS FTA, Korea-EU FTA, North Korea Human Rights Act, ODA Law and PKO Law in his own Committee. He was also actively involved in parliamentary diplomacy with the U.S., the U.K., China, Japan, ASEAN, Central Asia, Israel and the Middle East.

He previously served as the Presidential Secretary for Press Affairs and later Political Affairs under the Kim Young-sam administration (1993-1998).

During his private life, Dr. Park led the Asia Future Institute (AFI), an independent policy think-tank established in 2013. He also served as Chairman of the Korea-America Association (KAA) and Executive President of the Korea-Britain Society.

Minister Park graduated from the College of law at Seoul National University (BA), Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (MPA), New York University Law School (LLM) and received a doctorate degree (D. Phil.) in politics from St. Antony's College, Oxford University.

The Hon. Ambassador Philip S. Goldberg

Philip S. Goldberg was confirmed by the U.S. Senate as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea in May 2022. Prior to his current assignment, he served as U.S. Ambassador to Colombia and Charge d’affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Havana, Cuba, followed by a year as a Diplomat in Residence at Georgetown University.

Ambassador Goldberg also served as U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines, Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, U.S. Ambassador to Bolivia, Chief of Mission in Pristina, Kosovo, and Charge d’affaires and Deputy Chief of Mission in Santiago, Chile. From 2009-2010, Ambassador Goldberg was coordinator for the implementation of UN sanctions on North Korea.

Ambassador Goldberg holds the personal rank of Career Ambassador, the highest rank in the U.S. Foreign Service. He has received numerous awards, including Presidential Distinguished and Meritorious Service Awards; the Department’s Distinguished Honor Award and the Silver Seal Medallion for Meritorious Service in the U.S. Intelligence Community. Ambassador Goldberg is a native of Boston, Massachusetts, and a graduate of Boston University.
