Financial Supervisory Service Governor Lee Bokhyun

Lee Bokhyun took office as the 15th Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service on June 7, 2022. He was appointed by the President with the recommendation of the Chairman of the Financial Services Commission as provided under article 29 of the Act on the Establishment of the Financial Services Commission. He serves a three-year term that may be renewed once. In announcing Mr. Lee’s nomination, the FSC noted his distinguished track record in prosecuting financial and economic crimes.

Mr. Lee started his public service career at the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office in 2004 after passing the 42nd National Bar Examination in 2000 and completing the compulsory legal training at the Judicial Research and Training Institute in 2003 (32nd class). He was assigned to the Legal Affairs Division of the Ministry of Justice in 2011 and the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office in 2013. Mr. Lee was promoted to Deputy Senior Prosecutor in 2017 and to Director (Senior Prosecutor) of the Special Investigation Department 4 (renamed Anti-Corruption Investigation Department 4) in 2019 at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office. He then headed the Economic Crime Investigation Department in 2020. Prior to joining the FSS, Mr. Lee was Director of the Criminal Department 2 of the Seoul Northern District Prosecutors’ Office.

Mr. Lee earned a B.A. in economics from Seoul National University in 1995 and an LL.M. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2010. He passed the California bar examination in 2010 and was admitted to the California State Bar in 2014. He also passed the certified public accountant (CPA) examination in 1998.
