AMCHAM and HRD Korea Cohosted "The 9th Innovation Camp" at the University of Ulsan

September 30, 2016 ? The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) and Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRD Korea) cohosted “The 9th AMCHAM Innovation Camp” at the University of Ulsan on September 29, 2016.

 

This Innovation Camp was newly revamped with an additional session hosted by Human Resources Development Services Korea. In line with the “K-Move project,” this session was specially comprised of a mentoring session to provide students with a career coaching and tips for job searching in overseas companies.

 

Prior to the main event, the eleven AMCHAM delegates including leaders of AMCHAM, Eric John, Chairman of AMCHAM Council on Innovation for the Future (ACIF) and President of Boeing Korea, John Schuldt, President of AMCHAM, and Jeffrey Jones, Chairman of Partners for the Future Foundation, met with Vice President Pyung-Hee Kim of HRD Korea and Executive Vice-President & Provost Kee-Ho Kim of the University of Ulsan. During the meeting, the delegation discussed measures on how the government, education institutions and industry can cooperate to resolve youth unemployment issue.

 

Following the meeting, the main event opened with welcoming remarks by Executive Vice-President & Provost Kee-Ho Kim of the University of Ulsan, Chairman Eric John of ACIF, and Vice President Pyung-Hee Kim of HRD Korea. Around 200 students filled the Main Auditorium of the University of Ulsan for this rare opportunity to meet with CEOs and executives of the top global companies.

 

During his remark, Chairman of ACIF, Eric John, said, “It is a great pleasure to be back in Ulsan after almost 20 years,” and “We are happy to meet with students who will become the future leaders of Korea.” 

 

In Session 1, Eric John, President of Boeing Korea, OJ Kim, President of GE Power Systems Korea and Shin H. Rhee, Co-Founder & President of New Frontier Foods International each gave a lecture on what skillsets global companies look for when they hire young graduates. After the lectures, students asked questions ranging from personal experience to their opinions on social issues to each CEO lecturer. 

 

In Session 2, followed by the lectures, each of the ten mentors was assigned to a small group of students for a mentoring session over a lunch box provided by the University. These mentors included: John Schuldt (President of AMCHAM), Jeffrey Jones (Chairman of Partners for the Future Foundation), Michael Conforme (CEO of Michael Conforme International), Molly Gavin (Vice President, Government Affairs and Sustainability of Qualcomm Incorporated), Olivia Keum, (HR Leader of Boeing Korea), Byungchul Kim (Corporate Affairs Director of Phillip Morris Korea), OJ Kim (President of GE Power Systems Korea), Yongtak Paul Lee (Country Manager of ETS Global ? Korea), Andy Park (Sr. Manager/Government Affairs Korea & Japan of Herbalife Korea), and Shin H. Rhee (President of New Frontier Foods International).

 

In Session 3, titled “K-Move mentoring session” and organized by HRD Korea, Director Tae-won Kim of Google Korea and Hyung-sik Choi, who is currently employed in a global company, spoke to students sharing their tips and know-hows in finding jobs abroad. These mentors ended the event by encouraging and challenging students to aim high and dream big.

 

The 9th AMCHAM Innovation Camp aimed to provide students with practical advices on global employment and to ultimately foster local students into future global leaders. Students from the University of Ulsan said, “I gained valuable lessons through today’s event, especially at the mentoring session where I could personally talk to the global leaders. It was truly inspiring and motivating.”

AMCHAM Innovation Camp

 

In October 2012, AMCHAM launched the AMCHAM Council on Innovation for the Future, to promote innovation in Korea, encouraging closer partnerships between Korean and U.S. companies and supporting Korea’s youth and SMEs. To date, the Council has organized eight “Innovation Camps” at local universities outside of Seoul, including in Chungcheongbuk-do, Busan, Daegu, and Gangwon-do, Chungcheongnam-do, Jeollabuk-do and Cheonan. Leading AMCHAM member CEOs mentored Korean students on how to become and train themselves to be a global leader. 암참, 한국산업인력공단과 함께 울산대에서 '제 9회 암참 혁신캠프' 개최

 

2016 930? 주한미국상공회의소(AMCHAM, 이하 암참’)는 한국산업인력공단(이하 공단’)과 함께 어제(9 29일 목) 울산대학교에서 9회 암참 혁신캠프를 열었다.

 

이번 혁신캠프는 특히 공단의 정부해외취업지원 프로그램인 K-Move사업과 연계하여 기존의 글로벌 기업 CEO 및 임원단 멘토링에 더하여 향후 진로 및 구직 활동을 위한 멘토링이 추가되어 더욱 다채롭게 진행됐다.

 

본 행사에 앞서 암참 미래혁신위원회 에릭 존 위원장(보잉코리아 대표이사 사장)과 암참 존 슐트 대표, 암참 미래의동반자재단 제프리 존스 이사장을 포함한 암참의 CEO 및 임원은 한국산업인력공단 김평희 국제인력본부장, 울산대 김기호 교학부총장과 만나 학생들의 취업난으로 인한 불안을 완화 시키고 긍정적이고 실용적인 도움을 줄 수 있는 방안을 모색했다.

 

이어서 김기호 울산대 부총장, 암참 미래혁신위원회 에릭 존 위원장, 한국산업인력공단 김평희 국제인력본부장의 환영사 및 축사로 문을 연 이번 혁신캠프는 글로벌 기업과 취업에 관심이 있는 200여 명의 울산대 학생들이 참석했다.

 

에릭 존 위원장은 개회사를 통해 혁신캠프와 같은 뜻 깊은 행사를 통해 한국의 미래를 책임질 유망한 학생들과 만날 수 있어 기쁘다고 인사말을 전하며, “암참의 기업들은 한국의 뛰어난 인재들을 발굴하는 일을 계속해 한국 경제에 기여하도록 노력을 계속하겠다고 의지를 밝혔다.

 

이어진 1부의 CEO 특강에서는 에릭 존 보잉코리아 대표이사 사장, 김옥진 GE파워시스템스코리아 대표이사, 이신형 뉴프론티어푸드인터내셔널 대표가 글로벌 기업이 바라는 인재상과 학생들에게 필요한 역량을 중심으로 하여 강연을 펼치고 이어진 질의응답을 통해 학생들의 다양한 질문에 답했다.

 

2부의 멘토링 세션에서는 총 10명의 멘토들이 학생들과 소규모로 모여 도시락을 먹으며 이야기를 나눴다. 존 슐트 암참 대표, 제프리 존스 암참 미래의동반자재단 이사장, 금구슬 보잉코리아 HR Leader, 김병철 한국필립모리스 전무, 김옥진 GE파워시스템스코리아 대표이사, 마이클 컨포메 마이클 컨포메 인터네셔널 CEO, 몰리 개빈 퀄컴 대외협력부사장, 박영완 한국허벌라이프 이사, 이신형 뉴프론티어푸드인터내셔널 대표, 이용탁 ETS Global 한국지사 대표 등 글로벌 기업 CEO 및 임원들로 구성된 멘토들은 학생들에게 취업에 대한 실질적인 조언을 하며 뜻 깊은 시간을 가졌다.

 

3부의 K-Move 찾아가는 멘토링 프로그램에서는 특강 멘토인 구글 김태원 상무와 해외취업에 성공한 최형석 멘토가 해외 취업의 장단점과 해외근무에 대한 생생한 경험담을 들려주며 학생들을 격려하며 행사를 마무리 했다.

 

이번 혁신 캠프는 국내 청년 인재를 국내외산업을 혁신적으로 이끌어 나갈 리더로 양성하고 외국계 기업이 필요로 하는 글로벌 인재의 자질과 역량을 키우고자 개최됐다. 참여한 학생들은 일방적인 강연이 아닌 CEO들과 학생들 간의 소통을 통해 특별한 경험을 하게 되어 기쁘다며 소감을 밝혔다.

암참 혁신캠프

K-Move

 

K-Move는 국내 청년들을 글로벌인재로 육성하고 해외진출을 돕기 위해 출범한 해외진출통합지원 프로그램으로, 한국산업인력공단은 2013년부터 K-Move 국정과제로 추진하면서 해외취업설명회, K-Move 멘토링, K-Move 스쿨, 해외취업성공장려금 등 다양한 프로그램을 통해 청년 인재들이 세계무대에서 활약할 수 있도록 돕고 있다. 세부지원 내용은 해외진출 통합정보망인 월드잡플러스(www.worldjob.or.kr)에서 확인할 수 있다.
