AMCHAM Signs MOU with Jeollanam-do  to Strengthen Economic Cooperation and Attract Global Investment

Aligned with AMCHAM’s mission to position Korea as a premier business hub in APAC,

 driving greater business opportunities and sustainable growth

The MOU, signed by AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim and Governor Kim Young-rok of Jeollanam-do at the Koreana Hotel today, sets a strong foundation for collaborative efforts to drive greater business opportunities and sustainable growth. Executives from key AMCHAM member companies, including Choe Seung-ho, Representative Director & CEO of Pacifico Energy, and Ha Woon-sik, Country Leader of GE Vernova’s Offshore Wind, also attended the signing ceremony, underscoring the region's focus on renewable energy, adding significance to the ceremony.

The agreement outlines several key areas of cooperation, including support for business and investment activities, fostering partnerships between U.S. companies entering the Korean market and local businesses in Jeollanam-do, and facilitating trade between companies in Jeollanam-do and the U.S. Both organizations are also committed to exploring additional avenues for collaboration to further enhance the partnership.

AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim said, “I sincerely thank Governor Kim Yung-rok for this meaningful MOU. His leadership in making Jeollanam-do a hub for foreign investment, especially in renewable energy, is truly inspiring.”

He continued, “AMCHAM is dedicated to positioning Korea as the Asia-Pacific headquarters for global companies, and we see immense potential for collaboration with Jeollanam-do. Partnerships with companies like GE Vernova and Pacifico Energy highlight the exciting opportunities for shared success in sustainability and innovation. I look forward to many more impactful collaborations ahead.”

Governor of South Jeolla Province Kim Young-rok said, “Jeollanam-do’s forward-looking industrial vision and favorable conditions make it an attractive destination for leading global companies. With today’s agreement, we hope to see Jeollanam-do businesses expand their presence on the global stage while U.S. companies build a thriving ecosystem of shared growth in partnership with our region.”

This MOU is part of an ongoing series of agreements AMCHAM has made with local governments in Korea pledging to promote partnerships and collaboration with global companies investing in Korea. AMCHAM has signed an MOU with Goyang Special City, Hwaseong City, Suwon Special City, Paju City, and Incheon City.

오늘 서울 코리아나호텔에서 열린 업무협약식에는 제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 대표이사, 김영록 전라남도 도지사를 비롯해, 암참 회원사를 대표하여 퍼시피코 에너지 코리아 최승호 대표이사, GE 버노바 코리아 해상풍력 사업부 하운식 사장 등이 참석하여 전라남도의 핵심 신성장 산업 중 하나인 재생에너지 분야의 중요성을 강조하며 협약식에 의미를 더했다. 

업무협약은 ▲기업 및 투자유치 활동 지원, ▲한국시장에 진출을 희망하는 미국기업과 전라남도에 위치한 한국 기업들의 협력 증진, ▲전라남도와 미국 간 기업의 수출 활동 진흥 및 촉진을 위한 협력 ▲이 밖에 상호협조가 필요한 분야에 대한 다양한 협력 등을 담고 있다.

제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 대표이사는 “뜻깊은 MOU를 체결할 수 있도록 협조해 주신 김영록 도지사님께 진심으로 감사드린다. 전라남도를 외국인 투자, 특히 재생에너지 분야의 허브로 만들고자 하는 도지사님의 리더십은 정말 인상적.” 이라고 말했다.

그는 이어, “암참은 한국을 글로벌 기업의 아·태지역 본부로 자리매김하기 위해 최선을 다하고 있으며, 향후 전라남도와의 협력에서 무한한 가능성을 보고 있다. GE 버노바, 퍼시피코 에너지와의 파트너십을 통해 지속가능성과 혁신에서 공동의 성공을 거둘 수 있는 흥미로운 기회가 생긴 것.” 이라고 말하며, “앞으로 더 많은 의미 있는 협력이 이어지기를 기대한다.”고 덧붙였다.

김영록 전라남도 도지사는 또한, “전남의 미래 지향적인 산업 비전과 좋은 여건은 세계를 선도하고 있는 글로벌 기업에도 충분히 매력이 있다.”고 밝히며, “오늘 맺은 협약을 계기로 전남 기업이 세계 무대로 힘차게 뻗어 나가고 미국 기업은 전남과 함께 더 크게 성공하는 동반성장의 생태계가 만들어지길 기대한다.”고 덧붙였다.

이번 MOU는 암참이 한국에 투자하는 글로벌 기업과의 파트너십 및 협력을 촉진하기 위해 한국 지방 정부와 체결한 일련의 협약의 일환으로, 암참은 고양특례시, 화성시, 수원특례시, 파주시, 인천광역시와 MOU를 체결한 바 있다.
