AMCHAM Signs MOU with Hwaseong City to Bolster Economic Collaboration and Investment

AMCHAM signs MOU with Hwaseong City as a part of mission to position Korea as a business hub in APAC and

support economic collaboration to attract more investment from American companies

September 06, 2024 – The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea; Chairman & CEO James Kim) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hwaseong City today. This agreement aims to deepen economic collaboration and enhance investment opportunities between AMCHAM member companies and Hwaseong City.

The signing ceremony was attended by AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim, Hwaseong City Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun, National Assemblyman for Hwaseong City Kwon Chil-seung, and representatives from Hyundai/Kia R&D Center and 3M Hwaseong Plant, who represented AMCHAM member companies in the region.

This MOU represents yet another significant milestone in AMCHAM’s ongoing mission to position South Korea as the leading business hub in the Asia-Pacific region. Under the agreement, AMCHAM and Hwaseong City will work together to support economic activities of AMCHAM members within the city, attract new investments, and explore partnership opportunities between AMCHAM members entering the Korean market and local businesses in Hwaseong.

AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim said, “This MOU marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter between AMCHAM and Hwaseong City, particularly in areas of investment attraction and support for U.S. businesses looking to establish and expand in this dynamic region. With Hwaseong’s robust infrastructure and innovative policies, we are confident that this partnership will lead to exciting opportunities for both American and Korean businesses.”

He added, “I look forward to working closely with Mayor Jeong and his team to unlock new opportunities, drive mutual growth, and contribute to Hwaseong’s rise as a leading global business destination”

Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun of Hwaseong City expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, saying, “Partnering with AMCHAM, which represents global corporations, will be a powerful catalyst for attracting new businesses to Hwaseong. I am confident that this agreement will lead to mutual growth and prosperity for both Hwaseong City and AMCHAM." He added, "We are committed to making Hwaseong City a land of opportunity for American companies and will provide unwavering support to achieve this goal.”

Looking ahead, the two organizations will work closely to identify opportunities for cooperation, strengthen networks with AMCHAM and its member companies, attract further investment from American businesses, and support economic cooperation and investment attraction.

주한미국상공회의소, 화성시와 경제협력 및 투자 강화 위한 MOU 체결

美 기업의 투자 유치 촉진 및 경제협력 지원 통해 한국의 아·태지역 제1의 비즈니스 허브 미션 실현 가속화

2024년 9월 06일 – 주한미국상공회의소(암참; 회장 겸 대표이사 제임스 김)가 오늘 화성시를 방문하여 양해각서(MOU)를 체결했다. 이번 협약은 암참 회원사와 화성시간의 경제 협력을 강화하고 투자 기회를 확대하기 위해 마련되었다.

이날 체결식에는 제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 대표이사를 비롯해 정명근 화성시장, 권칠승 의원, 등이 참석했으며, 화성시 소재 암참 회원사인 현대기아차 R&D센터와 한국쓰리엠 화성공장 에서 참석해 협약의 의미를 더했다.

이번 MOU는 대한민국을 아·태지역 제1의 비즈니스 허브로 부상케 하고자 하는 암참의 미션 실현을 위한 또 하나의 초석이 될 것으로 보인다. 협약을 계기로 양 기관은 화성시 內 암참 회원사의 경제협력 및 신규 투자 유치 활동 지원과 암참 주관 각종 행사 후원, 한국 시장에 진출하는 암참 회원사와 화성시 內 한국 기업들과의 협력 방안도 함께 모색할 계획이다.

제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 대표이사는, “이번 MOU는 특히 투자 유치와 이 지역에서 사업을 확장하고자 하는 미국 기업에 중점을 두고 있다는 점에서 암참과 화성시 간의 새로운 장을 여는 계기가 될 것.” 이라고 말하며, “화성시의 강력한 인프라와 혁신 전략을 바탕으로 이번 파트너십이 한·미 양국 기업 모두에게 흥미로운 기회를 제공할 것이라 확신한다.”고 덧붙였다. 그는 또한, “앞으로 정명근 시장님을 비롯하여 화성시와 긴밀히 협력하여 새로운 기회를 창출하고 상호 성장을 촉진하며, 화성시가 글로벌 비즈니스 중심지로 도약하는데 기여할 수 있기를 기대한다.”고 밝혔다.

정명근 화성시장은 “글로벌 기업이 함께하는 주한미국상공회의소가 화성시의 기업 유치에 큰 힘이 될 것.” 이라며, “이번 협약을 통해 화성시와 암참 모두가 상생발전하기를 바란다.” 고 말했다. 이어 “양 기관의 지속적인 협력을 통해 화성시가 미국 기업들에게 기회의 장이 되기를 바라며, 화성시에서도 아낌없는 지원을 하겠다.”고 덧붙였다.

향후 양 기관은 구체적인 상호 협력 방안을 마련하고, 암참 및 소속 회원사와의 네트워크 강화를 통한 미 기업의 투자유치 촉진, 경제협력 및 투자유치 지원을 도모해 나갈 예정이다.
