The 8th AMCHAM Innovation Camp Delivered Hope to Youth in Cheonan

(한글은 아래 참조) ?April 28, 2016 (Seoul) ?The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) hosted the Eighth “AMCHAM Innovation Camp” in Dankook University, Cheonan Campus, on April 28, 2016. The delegates of AMCHAM met with local government leaders and industry leaders to build network as well as with the students to help strengthen their global capabilities and to give greater job opportunities to Korea’s youth. Prior to the event at Dankook University, AMCHAM Chairman James Kim (President, CEO, and Chairman of GM Korea), AMCHAM President John Schuldt, and CEOs and senior leaders of member companies of AMCHAM met with a member of the National Assembly in Cheonan A (Saenuri) Chan-woo Park, Mayor of Cheonan Bon-young Gu, and the Chairman of Chungnam Northern Chamber of Commerce and Industry Hyung Ki Han. During the meeting, leaders of the local government and industry shared the local students’ challenges in a job market and AMCHAM delegates promised to find ways together to give hopes to the students as foreign companies. The delegation offered insights on what makes an optimum environment for multinational companies to invest in and emphasized that Cheonan has the appeal to be a valuable city for investment. Following the meeting, the Innovation Camp was held at Dankook University’s Cheonan Campus. It opened with welcoming remarks by James Kim, AMCHAM Chairman (President, CEO, and Chairman of GM Korea); Hosung Chang, President of Dankook University; Bon-young Gu, Mayor of Cheonan; and Chan-woo Park, a member of National Assembly. With around 300 students eagerly in attendance, the lectures and mentoring sessions were led by nine CEOs and senior executives of leading U.S. multinational companies in Korea. In his opening remarks, Chairman James Kim said “it is always my great pleasure to meet with promising students who will become the future leaders of Korea,” and “member companies of AMCHAM Korea will continue our efforts to contribute to Korea’s economy through recruiting young talent.” In February of this year, the youth unemployment rate reached a record high of 12.5% according to the Ministry of Employment and Labor Korea, a percentage indicative of the frustrating reality young adults are facing in their job search. With a mission to deliver hope for the future, the nine “mentors” delivered practical and valuable advice including what skills multinational companies look for when they hire, and offered guidance to the students to help them grow into innovative business leaders in the future. In addition, a Q&A session and a small-group mentoring session provided an opportunity for personal dialogue between the CEOs and students. In Session 1 (CEO lectures), John Schuldt, President of AMCHAM Korea, Dongwook Oh, Country Manager of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals Korea, and James Kim, AMCHAM Chairman (President, CEO, and Chairman of GM Korea) took the podium to share personal experiences regarding thought leadership. In Session 2 (mentoring session), each of the seven CEOs and senior executives were assigned to a small group of students and interacted with students to give practical advice. AMCHAM Korea Concludes Key Meetings with Obama Administration and Leaders on Capitol Hill

(한글은 아래 참조) Mar 23, 2016 (Seoul) - Leaders from the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) concluded a recent visit to Washington D.C. from March 14 ? 17 where they met with key representatives of the Obama Administration and the U.S. Congress to discuss issues critical to the economic interests between Korea and the U.S. The visit was particularly timely and important given the current dialogue surrounding trade and investment so prominent in the current U.S. presidential campaign, the pending acceptance of the Trans Pacific Partnership (“TPP”) and Korea’s potential entrance as a member nation to TPP. The AMCHAM leaders focused on the strengths of Korea and the value to both nations in pursuing TPP membership for Korea. AMCHAM delegates held 35 meetings over the 4 days with administration and congressional leaders in an effort to combat rising anti-trade sentiment in the U.S. and promote a greater understanding of Korea and Korea’s economic policies. AMCHAM Korea delegates also informed the U.S. officials and congressional leaders of the benefits and challenges under the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA). Meetings were held with representatives of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Speaker Paul Ryan. The delegates also met with Senator Corry Gardner and Congressmen Joaquin Castro, Mike Kelly and David Richert and key personnel on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senate Finance Committee, House Ways and Means Committee, and House Foreign Affairs Committee. AMCHAM found that while the level of interest in Korea is strong, information is not always current and there are significant misunderstandings in the U.S. Congress on the current state of the bilateral relationship and in particular the current status of the KORUS FTA. . From the Obama Administration, AMCHAM met with Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Russel, Deputy United States Trade Representative (USTR) Ambassador Robert Holleyman, Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Korea and Japan Bruce Hirsch and Deputy Secretary of U.S. Department of Commerce Bruce Andrews. Delegates also had a fruitful meeting with some of the key leaders from the Departments of Commerce, Justice, Treasury, National Security Council, Fair Trade Commission and USTR. AMCHAM Korea Visits Washington D.C. to Advocate Korea as a Robust Partner to the U.S.

(한글은 아래 참조) Mar 9, 2016 (Seoul) - The leaders from the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) will visit Washington D.C. next week to meet with the Obama Administration and members of Congress as part of its annual “Doorknock” program during March 14-17, 2016. Through these meetings, the delegation will advocate Korea as an important economic partner to the United States. AMCHAM announced today that its President, Amy Jackson, will leave Korea in January of next year to take a new job in the Asia-Pacific region, the details of which will be announced at a later time. ?Ms. Jackson has served as the AMCHAM President since August of 2009. AMCHAM Healthcare Innovation Seminar 2015

Over 300 representatives from a variety of domestic and foreign healthcare-related companies, health organizations, government agencies and other stakeholders in the sector gathered to discuss the theme of “Successful innovation ? what is the next paradigm?” The event started with congratulatory remarks from government leaders including the Honorable Chun-jin Kim, a member of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Health and Welfare Committee and Marc Knapper, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Seoul. AMCHAM General Membership Meeting with Paul E. Jacobs

Jacobs, Executive Chairman of Qualcomm Incorporated and Chairman of U.S.-Korea Business Council, at the Grand Hyatt Seoul on June 30, 2015.Dr. Jacobs served as CEO from July 2005 to March 2014, and was appointed chairman of Qualcomm in 2009. He has been with the company for over 20 years. Under his leadership, Qualcomm released the first Palm OS-based smartphone and included global positioning system capabilities in cellphones. He is the son of Qualcomm’s founder, Dr. Irwin M. Jacobs. Dr. Paul E. Jacobs has also been the Chairman of U.S.-Korea Business Council since 2012. Jacobs) 퀄컴 이사회 회장 겸 한미재계회의 위원장을 초청 하여 오찬간담회를 개최했다. 폴 제이콥스 회장은 2005년부터 2013년까지 CEO를 맡아왔고, 2009년 퀄컴의 회장(Chairman)으로 임명되어, 현재는 이사회 회장(Executive Chairman) 역할을 맡고 있다. 20년 넘게 퀄컴에 재직했다. 그의 임기 동안 퀄컴은 최초로 팜 운영체계(Palm OS) 기반의 스마트폰을 출시하였고, 위성위치확인시스템(GPS)이 가능한 스마트폰을 출시했다. 그는 퀄컴의 설립자인 어윈 제이콥스(Irwin M. James Kim, who will become the President and COO of GM Korea on June 15, 2015, is the first Korean-American Chairman of AMCHAM and has ably led the organization from January 1, 2014, through the present as the Country Manager of Microsoft Korea. AMCHAM CEO Servers' Night

The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) hosted the “11th AMCHAM CEO Servers’ Night” on June 3rd, 2015 at The Park Ballroom on the 5th floor of the Conrad Seoul. The Partners for the Future Foundation (PFF), the charitable arm of AMCHAM Korea, has hosted this unique event to raise scholarship for Korean university students from unemployed families. On this special night, CEOs from leading multinational companies put on aprons instead of business suits becoming waiters for the event serving the meals and wine to their employees, families, business partners and friends. The staff at Conrad Seoul trained the CEOs on basic serving manners for the event. In his welcoming remarks, Jeffery Jones, Chairman of The Partners for the Future Foundation said “Tonight, your small donation can make a huge impact to the society. The Partners for the Future Foundation aims to have a bigger impact through a small amount of money.” Proceeds from this event will go to the PFF to award scholarships to university students in need of financial supports.On the event, around 130 guests enjoyed a four-course dinner served by their bosses. After the main event, participating CEOs were given various entertaining awards; Preston Draper, President of Costco Korea won the ‘Best Wine Seller Award’ and Eun-Mi Chae, Managing Director of FedEx Korea won the ‘Most Guests Award.’ The ‘Most Energetic CEO Award’ for CEO whose pedometer recorded the highest number went to Eun-Mi Chae and David Pacey, President & General Manager of Grand Hyatt Seoul.
