AMCHAM New Leadership Ready to Help Korea “win-win” with the U.S.

(한글은 아래 참조) December 5, 2016 ? The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) is pleased to announce its annual leadership election results and new leaders for 2017. Mr. James Kim, President and CEO of GM Korea Company, was once again re-elected unanimously as the Chairman of AMCHAM. This will be Mr. Kim’s fourth consecutive term as the Chairman of AMCHAM which is extraordinary. Chairman Kim will play a significant role in broadening advocacy and partnerships between AMCHAM member companies and the Korean government, and places a strong emphasis on improving the corporate environment and regulatory reform. With so much change in both Korea and in the U.S., Chairman Kim’s experience and knowledge is ideally timed. Mr. David Wook Hwan Song, GM of Nike Korea, and Mr. Dongwook (Dave) Oh, Country Manager of Pfizer Korea were newly elected to the Board of Governors, thus expanding the scope of industries represented by the AMCHAM leadership. “It is truly an honor to be re-elected as the Chairman of AMCHAM and I would like to thank all the candidates who ran in the 2017 AMCHAM BOG election. AMCHAM General Membership Meeting with H.E. Joo Hyunghwan

The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) hosted the AMCHAM General Membership Meeting (GMM) with His Excellency Joo Hyunghwan, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE) at the Grand Hyatt Seoul on November 29, 2016. Around 100 representatives from AMCHAM member companies and government officials including the Honorable Mark W. Lippert, AMCHAM Honorary Chairman and the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, attended the luncheon to receive an update on Korean government’s trade and investment policies and to gain understanding on how MOTIE will promote economic partnership with the incoming Trump administration in the U.S. This event was especially significant, as it was held during these very transformative times involving Korea, the U.S. and the rest of the world. Minister Joo delivered a speech on “New Economic Partnership with the Incoming Trump Administration,” and underscored Korean government’s continuous efforts to deepen and broaden the bilateral economic and trade relations of both countries, and asked AMCHAM members for their support and collaboration. In his speech, Minister Joo addressed the “Bilateral economic partnership between Korea and the U.S. will step forward, as the KORUS FTA serves as a useful and constructive platform to drive economic growth and to resolve bilateral economic issues for both countries.” He added that “KORUS FTA has resulted in several positive outcomes, such as investment growth and job creation over the past 5 years since its establishment.” In addition, he stated that as a framework for bilateral economic partnership, KORUS FTA has contributed toward stable management of trade issues and that Korea will continue to cooperate with the U.S. through bilateral regulatory dialogue. He outlined 3 specific ideas on how Korea and the U.S. can cooperate on key elements of President-elect Trump plans to improve infrastructure projects in the U.S., manufacturing joint ventures between American and Korean companies and the benefits to Korea of moving forward with increased import of US oil and condensate product. During the fireside chat following the speech with AMCHAM Chairman James Kim, Minister Joo candidly answered questions regarding various current issues in Korea and around the globe, ranging from the incoming Trump administration to the Korean government’s commitment to reforming regulations and improving corporate environment. Minister Joo said that the Korean government will continue to address the business regulations unique to Korea in order for these to align with the global standards. He also mentioned that the government will continue to review how to make the Korean business environment non-discriminatory. In response to a question about the incoming Trump administration, Minister Joo commented that the new administration in the U.S. is expected to bring about new business and partnership opportunities and to deepen the bilateral relationship between the two countries. He asked AMCHAM to play a role as a messenger in bringing the two governments together. When asked about what AMCHAM could do to help the Korean government, Minister Joo answered that “AMCHAM has been playing a very important role in promoting the win-win economic partnership of both countries. AMCHAM Hosts “Healthcare Innovation Seminar 2016”

(한글은 아래 참조) November 18, 2016 (Seoul) - The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) hosted the seventh annual “AMCHAM Healthcare Innovation Seminar" on Friday, November 18 at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul. Over 200 representatives from a variety of domestic and foreign healthcare-related companies, health organizations, government agencies including Ministry of Health and Welfare and Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, gathered to share their insights through presentations and panel discussions under the theme of “Innovation without Borders ? Key to a Safer, Healthier Life.” The seminar aims to identify key policies and incentives for Korea to attract investment in innovation and enhance its global competitiveness. The event started with opening remarks from John Schuldt, President of AMCHAM, followed by congratulatory remarks from government leaders including His Excellency Chung Chinyoub, The Minister of Health of Welfare, His Excellency Yang Seoung-jo, Member of the National Assembly and Chairman of the Health and Welfare Committee, and Marc Knapper, Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy to the Republic of Korea. In his congratulatory remarks, Minister Chung Chinyoub addressed the 4th Industrial Revolution which lead healthcare paradigm shift from “treatment” to “prevention & management,” and stressed the increasing importance of innovation in IT and biotechnology industries. He mentioned that “Korean government will continue its efforts to implement policies that place improved public health as a core value. Chairman Yang Seoung-jo, expressed in his congratulatory remarks that “Healthcare is one of the fastest growing and innovative industries. Multinational pharmaceutical companies have greatly contributed to the growth of healthcare industry as well as the increased FDI and job creation in Korea. I appreciate AMCHAM’s efforts in creating an opportunity to analyze the trend in the healthcare industry and discuss potential opportunities for public-private partnership.” Through plenary session presentation, President Bang Yung-Jue of Biomedical Research Institute at Seoul National University Hospital noted that “Open innovation is necessary for maximizing R&D efficiency in pharmaceutical and medical technology.” He stressed emphasis on the collaboration among institutes, academia, hospitals and investors for better efficiency. In session 1, presenters explained about the costs and risks of pharmaceutical R&D and ways to promote R&D through bio-cluster. George Chen, Sr. R&D Leader of AstraZeneca, noted that “New drug discovery and development is a long, risky and costly journey.” Uloff Muenster, General Manager of Merck Korea, cited M Lab™ Collaboration Center as an example of partnership model among biopharmaceutical manufacturers, engineers and scientists to solve challenges and accelerate development together. Maeng Hoyoung, Director at Division of Trade Affairs of MOHW, then introduced the Korean governments’ policies and plans on new medical development R&D and bio-cluster. In session 2, presenters discussed about the new paradigm of healthcare for cost-effective patient access. Professor Jeong Boyoung of Yonsei Severance University Hospital introduced Cardiac Remote Monitoring System as an example of innovative technology that can help to reduce the unnecessary medical costs of patients. During lunch, Professor Lee Hak Jong of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital delivered the keynote speech of the day and emphasized the significance of R&D in healthcare industry. In session 3, panelists discussed under the theme of “Back to Basics: Ensuring Patient Safety for Better Clinical Outcome.” Jayant Giri, Physician and Associate Director of Becton Dickinson, presented about how innovative technologies can help to improve infection prevention, ultimately resulting in enhanced patient safety. Panelists including Kim MiHyang, Director at Listing Management Division of Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, discussed ways to effectively utilize new technologies for the patients with appropriate regulations and reimbursement policies. The 4th AMCHAM Service Day

(한글은 아래 참조) November 4, 2016 ? On Friday, November 4, the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) hosted “The 4th AMCHAM Service Day” at the impoverished village in Gwacheon City. This year’s event was dedicated to support the underprivileged neighborhood that needs the most help of the community by delivering the coal briquettes. The AMCHAM Service Day is an annual event organized by AMCHAM’s charitable arm, the Partners for the Future Foundation (PFF). The previous three Service Days events were planting trees at Noeul Park in 2013, cleaning the Yangjae Stream in 2014 and participating in the Eco Flea Market in 2015. Prior to the main event, John Schuldt, President of AMCHAM, delivered the welcoming remarks to the participants. President Schuldt said, “AMCHAM Service Day is a great way to give back to the community who are less fortunate. On behalf of AMCHAM, I’d like to thank everyone for their participation.” On this special day, more than 70 employees from AMCHAM member companies, together with the AMCHAM staffs participated. Member companies including AIG Korea, Boston Scientific Korea, Hwang Mok Park, Kim & Chang, KKR, Lutronic Corporation, New Wrap Co., LTD, Praxair Korea and Yulchon LLC donated about 5,500 coal briquettes to the village. AMCHAM and its member companies have been actively engaging in various Corporate Social Responsibility activities since its establishment in 2000 in response to the 1997 Asian Financial Crisis. AMCHAM Hosts “C-Suite Compliance & Risk Management Seminar

The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) hosted the first ever “AMCHAM C-Suite Compliance & Risk Management Seminar 2016” with around 200 attendees on October 25, 2016 at the Four Seasons Hotel Seoul. With the enforcement of the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act, the AMCHAM C-Suite Compliance & Risk Management Seminar 2016 aimed to provide AMCHAM members a better understanding of various compliance and risk management issues impacting businesses. AMCHAM and HRD Korea Cohosted "The 9th Innovation Camp" at the University of Ulsan

The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) and Human Resources Development Service of Korea (HRD Korea) cohosted “The 9th AMCHAM Innovation Camp” at the University of Ulsan on September 29, 2016. This Innovation Camp was newly revamped with an additional session hosted by Human Resources Development Services Korea. In line with the “K-Move project,” this session was specially comprised of a mentoring session to provide students with a career coaching and tips for job searching in overseas companies. Prior to the main event, the eleven AMCHAM delegates including leaders of AMCHAM, Eric John, Chairman of AMCHAM Council on Innovation for the Future (ACIF) and President of Boeing Korea, John Schuldt, President of AMCHAM, and Jeffrey Jones, Chairman of Partners for the Future Foundation, met with Vice President Pyung-Hee Kim of HRD Korea and Executive Vice-President & Provost Kee-Ho Kim of the University of Ulsan. During the meeting, the delegation discussed measures on how the government, education institutions and industry can cooperate to resolve youth unemployment issue. Following the meeting, the main event opened with welcoming remarks by Executive Vice-President & Provost Kee-Ho Kim of the University of Ulsan, Chairman Eric John of ACIF, and Vice President Pyung-Hee Kim of HRD Korea. Around 200 students filled the Main Auditorium of the University of Ulsan for this rare opportunity to meet with CEOs and executives of the top global companies. During his remark, Chairman of ACIF, Eric John, said, “It is a great pleasure to be back in Ulsan after almost 20 years,” and “We are happy to meet with students who will become the future leaders of Korea.” In Session 1, Eric John, President of Boeing Korea, OJ Kim, President of GE Power Systems Korea and Shin H. Rhee, Co-Founder & President of New Frontier Foods International each gave a lecture on what skillsets global companies look for when they hire young graduates. After the lectures, students asked questions ranging from personal experience to their opinions on social issues to each CEO lecturer. In Session 2, followed by the lectures, each of the ten mentors was assigned to a small group of students for a mentoring session over a lunch box provided by the University. These mentors included: John Schuldt (President of AMCHAM), Jeffrey Jones (Chairman of Partners for the Future Foundation), Michael Conforme (CEO of Michael Conforme International), Molly Gavin (Vice President, Government Affairs and Sustainability of Qualcomm Incorporated), Olivia Keum, (HR Leader of Boeing Korea), Byungchul Kim (Corporate Affairs Director of Phillip Morris Korea), OJ Kim (President of GE Power Systems Korea), Yongtak Paul Lee (Country Manager of ETS Global ? In Session 3, titled “K-Move mentoring session” and organized by HRD Korea, Director Tae-won Kim of Google Korea and Hyung-sik Choi, who is currently employed in a global company, spoke to students sharing their tips and know-hows in finding jobs abroad. These mentors ended the event by encouraging and challenging students to aim high and dream big. AMCHAM General Membership Meeting with H.E. Yoo Il Ho

The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM) hosted a luncheon with His Excellency Yoo Il Ho, Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) for Economic Affairs and Minister of Strategy and Finance (MOSF), at the Grand Hyatt Seoul on June 30, 2016. DPM Yoo met with AMCHAM for the first time since his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance in January 2016. DPM Yoo gave a speech on “New Leap for Korea-U.S. Economic Ties: Reinvigoration and Vision” and underscored the bright prospects of Korea-U.S. economic ties and AMCHAM’s role in it. In his speech, the DPM addressed strong potentials as well as some challenges including aging society that Korea’s economy faces today. He listed three major areas where Korean government is exerting efforts to enhance its potentials: reinvigorating the economy through reforms, identifying new growth engines, and strengthening “soft power” through deregulation. In particular, he mentioned that Korean government will continue its efforts for deregulation to promote foreign investment and to create a business-friendly environment. DPM Yoo closed his speech emphasizing that the partnership between Korea and the U.S. is broaden and strengthened throughout the history and it is expected to grow even more robust through new economic ties in the areas such as aerospace, energy, environment, etc. In that, he asked AMCHAM member companies active engagement and support. During the fireside chat following the speech, DPM Yoo answered to questions regarding ongoing issues in global and Korean economy. In response to a question about Brexit, DPM Yoo outlined what impacts Brexit would have on the Korean economy and emphasized that the Korean government will implement the countermeasures to address those impacts. As this year marks the 4th anniversary of the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA), DPM Yoo also commented on the ongoing success and strengths of the KORUS FTA Refuting the argument that the KORUS FTA is undermining the U.S. economy, DPM Yoo underscored that the KORUS FTA is mutually beneficial for both countries. The 12th AMCHAM CEO Servers’ Night

(한글은 아래 참조) June 24, 2016 (Seoul) ? American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) hosted the “12th AMCHAM CEO Servers’ Night” at The Park Ballroom of Conrad Seoul on June 24, 2016. The Partners for the Future Foundation (PFF), the charitable arm of AMCHAM Korea, has been hosting this meaningful event since 2003 to raise scholarship funds for Korean university students from unemployed families. For this special event, CEOs of Korean and multinational companies exchanged their business suits for white aprons to serve food and wine to their families, employees, business partners, and friends. The CEOs were trained on basic dinner service by the hotel staff from Conrad Seoul. Guests enjoyed the rare opportunity to see their CEOs outside of the office, sometimes fumbling in their effort to serve perfectly. To make this night even more special, Chevron Korea made a generous donation of KRW 5 million. Other partners donated various gifts and funds to contribute to the cause. In his opening remarks, Jeffrey Jones, Chairman of Partners for the Future Foundation, said “Tonight is about having fun. I am very glad to be able to continue this meaningful event for the 12th year now. Hope AMCHAM and you can continue to work together to give back to the Korean society.” Around 140 guests participated and enjoyed the dinner served by the CEOs. After the main event, AMCHAM presented unique awards to the CEO servers. The American Chamber of Commerce in Korea (AMCHAM Korea) kicked off “Global Leading Companies Mentoring Startups” with the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) at the Seoul Central Post Office on June 14, 2016. AMCHAM collaborates with MSIP to launch this program in an effort to support Korea’s innovative startup companies to grow into global companies. The Global Leading Companies Mentoring Startups Program was established as a part of AMCHAM Council on Innovation for the Future (ACIF)’s new initiative. AMCHAM launched ACIF in October 2012 with the aim of promoting innovation and new business partnerships in Korea. ACIF’s motives aligned with Park administration’s focus on the Creative Economy initiative which is to “strengthen the role of ventures and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the creative economy and strengthen their ability to enter global markets.” In this Program, 19 global leading companies, who are members of AMCHAM, will participate as mentors. The volunteering mentor companies from AMCHAM are 3M Korea; Adaptable Human Solutions Ltd; AIG Korea Inc.; Boeing Korea; Facebook Korea; Hewlett Packard Enterprise; IBM Korea, Inc.; Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices; Kim & Chang; LINA Korea (Cigna); Mahindra Korea; Medtronic Korea Co., Ltd.; Microsoft Korea Inc.; Minnesota Trade Office; Orne Haneul, Attorneys at Law; Susterra Partners Ltd.; Visa International (Asia-Pacific) Korea; Yulchon LLC; and Zuellig Pharma Korea Ltd. They will pair with 14 startups matched accordingly to the area of interest. These mentees were selected by K-ICT Born2Global Center (B2G Center) and Creative Economy Innovation Center considering their innovative ideas, technologies, and achievements. The matched mentors and mentees will meet regularly to discuss challenges and lessons learned to enter into global markets. At the Kick-Off Event on June 14, Choi Jaeyou, the Second Vice Minister of MSIP, gave his opening remarks. In his remarks, Vice Minister Choi acknowledged that “this program will be a great opportunity to generate a positive synergy for the innovative startups by building a network with global leading companies that have top-notch technology and competitiveness in the market.” “MSIP will continue our support for startups to target overseas market even in their early stages and to grow into leading global venture companies.” AMCHAM President John Schuldt remarked, “It is truly a great pleasure and honor to partake in this significant initiative for both AMCHAM’s member companies and startup companies in Korea.” He also commented that “AMCHAM and its member companies take high interest and actively engage in Korean startups and the Creative Economy. A powerful synergy is expected as the product of this collaboration not only between the leading global companies and Korean startups, but also between AMCHAM and MSIP. We look forward to developing and executing more programs like this together in the future.” After the remarks, the event continued with IR Presentations and a discussion on mutual development and cooperation between leading global companies and startups.
