AMCHAM Seeks Measures to Establish Korea as a Top Destination for Global Companies with Foreign Minister Park Jin

To discuss strategies for strengthening Korea-U.S. economic partnership

Representing the American business community in Korea, AMCHAM Chairman & CEO James Kim, SVP and President of Qualcomm APAC O.H. Kwon and CEO of Citibank Korea Myung-Soon Yoo thanked Foreign Minister Park Jin’s leadership in strengthening the U.S.- Korea relations and shared AMCHAM’s business priorities to establish Korea as a top destination for global companies.

Foreign Minister Park Jin mentioned that the robust ROK-U.S. alliance is at the center of Korea’s foreign policy, and requested for AMCHAM’s contribution as the ROK and the U.S. assess the past and the future of the bilateral relationship, which now has become a global comprehensive strategic alliance. Minister Park also explained the economic significance of Korea’s Indo-Pacific Strategy – Korea’s first comprehensive foreign policy strategy – and requested for creative and constructive proposals from the U.S. business community, so that the bilateral trade and investment partnership can be further revitalized within the Indo-Pacific Strategy.

“Under the remarkable leadership of President Yoon and President Joe Biden, we have seen the U.S.-Korea relationship reach new heights. The economic partnership between the two countries has both diversified and deepened,” remarked AMCHAM Chairman and CEO James Kim. “We are also very grateful for the strong leadership of Foreign Minister Park Jin in promoting U.S.-Korea relations over the years.”

He added, “This year marks the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-Korea alliance and the founding of AMCHAM Korea. This is a critical moment in shaping the future of Korea.” He continued, “As the longest-standing foreign chamber in Korea, AMCHAM will continue supporting the strong relationship as a bridge builder between the two countries and the important initiative to establish Korea as regional headquarters in Asia Pacific.”

주한미국상공회의소, 박진 외교부 장관 예방

대한민국을 아시아 최고의 외투 허브로 만들기 위한 글로벌 기업의 비즈니스 우선순위 및 한·미 경제 협력 강화 전략 모색

2023년 02월 14일 – 주한미국상공회의소(암참; 회장 겸 대표이사 제임스 김)가 박진 외교부 장관을 예방하였다.   

서울 외교부 청사에서 진행된 이번 차담회에는 주한 미국 재계를 대표하여 제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 대표이사와 권오형 퀄컴 본사 수석 부사장 겸 아태지역 총괄 사장, 유명순 한국씨티은행 은행장이 참석한 가운데, 한·미 관계 강화를 위한 박진 외교부 장관의 리더십에 사의를 표하며, 대한민국을 아시아 최고의 외투 허브로 만들기 위한 글로벌 기업의 비즈니스 우선순위 등에 대한 의견을 나누었다.  

박진 외교부 장관은 이 자리에서 굳건한 한미동맹은 한국 외교 정책의 중심에 있다며, 글로벌 포괄적 전략 동맹으로 거듭난 한미 관계를 돌아보고, 또 그 미래를 논의해 나가는데 있어 암참의 기여를 요청하였다. 또한, 우리 역사상 최초의 포괄적 외교전략인 인태전략은 경제적 차원에서도 의미가 크다고 하고, 그 안에서 한미 간 교역‧투자 파트너십도 더욱 활성화될 수 있도록 미 재계의 창의적이고 건설적인 제안도 당부하였다.   

제임스 김 암참 회장 겸 대표이사는 차담을 통해 “윤석열 대통령과 바이든 대통령의 놀라운 리더십에 힘입어 그 어느 때보다 강력해진 한·미 양국의 경제 협력 관계는 끊임없이 진화하고 다변화되고 있으며, 새로운 정점에 도달하였다.” 라고 말하며, “수년간 한·미 관계 증진에 힘써주고 있는 박진 외교부 장관의 강력한 리더십에도 진심으로 감사드린다.” 라고 덧붙였다.  

그는 또한, “올해는 특별히 한미동맹 및 암참 창립 70년을 맞는 뜻깊은 해로, 지정학적 역학관계 속에서 한국의 미래를 결정 짓는 매우 중요한 순간이라고 본다.” 라고 말하며, “한국에서 가장 오랜 역사를 가진 상의로서, 암참은 앞으로도 한·미 양국간 경제 협력 강화를 위한 가교 역할을 더욱 충실히 함과 동시에 대한민국이 명실공히 아·태 지역 비즈니스 허브로 자리매김할 수 있도록 지속적으로 지원할 것.” 이라고 말했다.
