    Inbom Choi

Inbom Choi is the Senior Advisor for Government Affairs and Policy at GE Korea. Dr. Choi is an economist specializing in international trade and investment issues and also teaches trade policy as an Adjunct Professor at the Sogang University’s Graduate School of International Studies. At Amcham Korea, he serves as Special Advisor to the Board and the Chairman of Government & International Affairs Committee. For the last 30 years, Dr. Choi has worked as public policy maker, adviser and influencer in various types of institutions, covering international organization, Korean national and provincial government, think-tanks, academia, non-profit foundation, law firm, industry associations, and global corporations.

Before joining GE in 2014, Dr. Choi served as the Senior Advisor for Government Relations and Public Policy at GM Korea for more than three years, following his role as the IBM Governmental Programs Representative to Korea for five years and the Senior Advisor at Lee International, a major IP and Law Group in Korea. Prior to joining the corporate world in 2005, Dr. Choi was the Chief Economic Advisor to the Governor of Gyeonggi Province, and during this period he also served as the Secretary-General of the Gyeonggi Federation of Economic Organizations. In 2003, he served as the Chief Economist and Advisor to CEO at the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI).

Dr. Choi previously served in the Office of the President from 1995 to 1996 as Assistant Secretary to the President for International Economics, where he played the key role in Korea’s accession to OECD and Korea’s active involvement in the APEC. Prior to his appointment at the office of the President, Dr. Choi worked for five years as Research Fellow at the Korea Institute for International Economic Policy (KIEP), which is a major government think-tank. He also worked at the World Bank and taught at Georgetown University.

Dr. Choi currently serves on the Planning & Evaluation Committee of the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Science. In 1998 and 1999, he was selected as one of the ASEM’s Next Generation Leaders of Asia. He received the Meritorious Honor Award from the Office of the President in 1996, and served on the National Committee for Globalization in 1994. He was a member of the Government Advisory Group on International Economic Affairs, and served as Foreign Investment Advisor to Gyeonggi Province.

Dr. Choi has spoken and written widely on international economics, including Free Trade between Korea and the United States? (2001) co-authored with Jeffrey Schott and Korean Diaspora in the World Economy (2003) co-edited with Fred Bergsten of the Peterson Institute for International Economics where he was once a Visiting Fellow. Dr. Choi received his Ph.D. in economics from the Georgetown University.
