James KimPresident and CEO
James Kim was appointed president, CEO and chairman of GM Korea, effective January 1, 2016.
Mr. Kim is responsible for the total operations of GM Korea with 17,000 employees, four manufacturing facilities in Korea and represents one of only seven fully integrated design, engineering and manufacturing operations within GM. Mr. Kim also has oversight responsibilities with GM’s joint venture operations in Uzbekistan.
Mr. Kim joined GM Korea in June 2015 as president and chief operating officer (COO) from Microsoft Korea, where he had served as country manager and CEO since February 2009. His previous roles include CEO of Yahoo! Korea and Asia regional vice president of Overture (a wholly owned subsidiary of Yahoo).
Prior to Yahoo, Mr. Kim was the managing partner at Palisades Advisors based in New York from 2001 to 2005. Prior to Palisades, he held other positions including CEO at Corcoran.com, Vivien International and AT&T as a National Marketing Manager.
Mr. Kim has a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard University, both in the U.S. He currently serves as chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in Korea.
Mr. Kim is married with two sons. As an avid tennis player, he enjoys competitive sports.
