David Ruch is United’s senior company representative responsible for all aspects of the airline’s operation in Korea. He has over 38 years of international airline experience and has worked in Asia for 35 years. Mr. Ruch has held numerous leadership positions in Korea's business community over the past 25 years. He currently sits on the Board as a past Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Korea, an organization representing over 1,000 US companies, after 2 terms as Chairman and a 3 year term as Vice Chairman. He has served as Co-Chair of the Travel & Transportation Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce for more than 10 years, where he has been active in the Chamber’s Capitol Hill lobbying initiatives to secure Visa Waiver status for Korea and the ratification of the Free Trade Agreement legislation.
Aside from his AMCHAM roles, he serves as the Korea Chair for the US Travel Association and is Chairman of Korea’s Board of Airline Representatives. He is a recipient of the Ministerial Achievement Award from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and was an Asia/Pacific delegate to the White House Conference on Tourism. He is one of only three foreigners to have served on the Korean Government’s Presidential Council for National Competitiveness, chaired by the President of the Republic of Korea, representing US Business interests to Korean government policy makers. He is currently active in both U.S. and Korean industry affairs and policy.
Immediately prior to United, Mr. Ruch was President of The Lacek Group, a division of Ogilvy & Mather, specializing in travel industry consulting. Prior to Ogilvy, Mr. Ruch’s career in the airline industry included 20 years of senior level positions with Northwest Airlines, split between assignments in Japan and Korea.
